POLL: I need recommendations/opinions on winter boots.

Alright ladies, I need to stop wearing heels in the winter for my own safety. I might finally cave and jump on the Ugg train. I am pretty self conscious about my height (5 ft). so I have never bought them before. Plus, they are not the cutest IMO. Anyway, will you recommend your boots or pick from the following (pictures in comments)?

SS- I have issues with suede. I hate the way the salt looks on suede shoes/boots. I've never owned a pair of Uggs so I don't know if the salt affects them or not.

  • I like the one with the buttons.

IMO suede vs. snow =/= a good combo.

I have the black with buttons, so think those are very cute. But I like the port too--goes with black and brown. Though I guess chestnut does too. Just embrace them, they'll keep your tootsies so warm. I'm asking for some of their slippers for Christmas, totally going to rock those jams in the hospital!

  • I've had two pair's of uggs! I to am short and I love them for winter because they are warm an comfy! My first pair went up half my calve, had a cute buckle on it and had a zipper up the inseam. My DH bought me shorter one's last year with the bows on the back! Both pairs are black. I really like the pair that zipped because I'm having a hard time getting my new ones on with my bump in the way. Also a tip if you have smaller feet check the child section because you can get them cheaper.
  • I have a pair of chocolate bailey button (the slightly taller ones) that survived 5 winters in NYC and are still going strong.  They may not be the cutest but I LOVE them for comfort and utility.

  • I personally hate how uggs look and would opt for like a cute pair of muk luk winter boots with a sturdy sole.

  • There are plenty of knockoffs that are way cheaper and look pretty much identical. I wouldn't pay $200+ for Uggs but I do love my winter boots that look just like them. I wear them daily in the winter.

So anyone with these suede boots that have experienced snow/salt: what do you do oo keep them looking nice (I.e. not white from the salt grime)? Do you spray them with something?

ETA WTF self? Why did you use the incorrect to/too??
  • I ordered the spray to go with mine.

  • I have always liked the ones with the buttons. :) Unfortunately for me, I live in South Florida so not much of an opportunity to wear boots here. Buttons for the win!
    <Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker>
  • I need the button ones now :\">
  • I have leather Ugg Brooks that have lasted over 8 years! I've bought new inserts, but they have really held up to snowy Maine winters. I waterproof them and can polish them, too.
  • I saw some cute Fitflop ones too. I am forever drawn to the platform.....

I am REALLY hard on my footwear. I have had these Ugg clog boots for 2 years and they are still like new. I don't really consider them Uggs though because they don't look like your typical Ugg boot ;)

  • I have a knock off pair that I like for kicking around but for legit winter boots it couldn't be happier to have finally invested in my Sorel boots.

  • The only time I wear my uggs is when it's cold. Not cold and snowy. I've had uggs for years (hipster moment: my mom always had some my whole life before they were cool so we wore them since childhood) BUT here's the deal. The soles on most of them are soft. Meaning: they wear down real fast and boom no traction. So yeah.. As someone who walks a mile each way in the snow to school (haha) I would never wear them for that walk. Especially right now.

That is the job of Sorel or other waterproof super traction boots (I go between Sorel and a pair of awesome hiking boots that have the mega treads). But again.. It all depends on your circumstances. Walking in snow + carrying a baby = super cautious me

  • I voted Bailey Button but only because my maiden name is Bailey and mom used to tell us we don't have Belly Buttons we have Bailey Buttons! :)

  • I just wanted to say, try to get some with a slightly elevated heel, and not a completely flat bottom---it is better for your back! (At least, it feels better on my back.)

I 100% agree with this. I live in Northern Michigan on a farm where Uggs just aren't practical.

  • I have many pairs of Ugg boots. I really like the Bailey button ones, they seem to be easier to get on with this belly. I also have that Ugg spray that a PP mentioned. Works great. I buy DD a pair of Uggs each year. There are some that look like the Bailey Button, but instead of a button have some bling! Just a thought!

  • After I found out I was pregnant I got a pair of sorel Slimpack tall boots-while I love my uggs as others have said the traction isn't great and I was really worried about slipping. I work in a downtown area and even with the spray trashed the suede on my uggs bc of what they use on the street/sidewalk. Love the Sorel's so far and lots of compliments!

I agree I wear uggs when it's cold. But have sorrels for the snow. Not only are sorrels more functional, they are still cute!
