Toddler Moms: Busy bags/activities for those newborn days

I mentioned busy bags a while back when talking about how I was planning on keeping Adeline distracted while nursing/tending to Milo and I know some of you were interested!  Here are some of the activities that I got when I did a busy bag exchange with a moms group that we've tried out successfully with her (16 months):

-Popsicle sticks with velcro dots at the ends: Stick em together, pull them apart, repeat X100
-Pom-pom stuff-it: A little tupperware container with a hole cut in the top of it filled with pom poms.  Dump them out and let the kiddo stuff them back inside.
-Sponge blocks - Literally just different colored sponges cut into different shapes.  Can be used with or without water.
-Felt board - a board covered in black felt with different designs cut out of felt to stick to it
-Home made play doh - Super easy to make

A lot of the other activities that I got are too advanced for her so I haven't tried them out yet (color matching games, threading activities, etc.).  Share your ideas for how to keep a toddler entertained by themselves below!

  • Ripping all of the tupperware and sippy cups out of the cupboard doesn't count, right? ;)

  • @mandamoochie We have a lock on our cabinet to prevent just that from happening but I will occasionally pull a bunch out and give her a wooden spoon to stir them all with...it keeps her entertained for AT LEAST 5 minutes!

Great idea!! I really would not of thought of any of these, thanks for the ideas!

  • I actually had to take the locks OFF because the incredible hulk over here could rip the doors open (locked) at 14 mo. I was afraid he was going to poke his eye out with the piece on the door since it was *JUST* the right height

Haha! The tupperware drawer is the only one not off limits in our house. The newest move is to take them out one at a time, restack them, then throw them down the stairs.

We got magnetic locks for just this reason.  It's a PITA to have to use the little magnetic key to open each one but I knew that if we used the latches she would pull them right open!
