Normally, one, but it depends on your doctor and medical necessity. I had 2 with my RE, the A/S and that would've been it but we started having complications and I was sent for BPPs & NSTs twice a week starting at 32w. I ended up with 17 total.

Most women only get 1 around 20 weeks unless there are high risk issues involved.

  • I've had five so far, but I'm high risk.

  • 3. Dating u/s in 1st tri. We opted for the n/t scan then the a/s. My OB doesn't do 3rd tri u/s unless there is a concern.

  • I had 2 in my first trimester (this was just the standard for my clinic).  I had the anatomy scan around 18 or 20 weeks.

I also had one in my Third Tri because my bump was small and they had concerns my amniotic fluid was low.
  • Just one, the fetal survey scan, at about 20 weeks. We didn't need additional ultrasounds for dating and opted out of the early indicator DS scan. (The information wouldn't have changed anything for us.)

Since then, I've been lucky to have a low-risk, uneventful pregnancy so there's been no real reason for additional ultrasounds, unless something changes these last few weeks.
  • I get three: 1 was done around 8 weeks as a dating scan, 2 was done at 20 weeks for an anatomy scan, and 3 is done at 36 weeks just to make sure everything is right on track.
  • I've had two -- one for dating (which I very well could/should have declined because I knew my dates) and then the mid-pregnancy anatomy scan.  My pregnancy has been low risk and healthy so far, so unless something pops up unexpectedly, I won't have any more.

  • 3 so far. This is my first pregnancy and so I just went with what the doctor ordered without question at first. I had a "dating scan" at 6 weeks that was completely unnecessary because I know my ovulation date for certain. I then was subjected to another scan at 9 weeks at my first official prenatal visit. That is when I decided to drop that OB and go with midwives. I have a low risk pregnancy with absolutely no concerns so far, there was absolutely no need for these early scans other than to line to pockets of the OB office.

I got the 20 week anatomy scan at 20w3d. I have no intention of getting any more scans, much less a 3d scan, unless there is an issue that makes ultrasound necessary.

  • I had 5: dating, 3D, A/S, one right before I was due because my OB had extra time and one of the machines wasn't being used and one around 25weeks because I had a kidney stone (they were looking for the stone but were nice enough to give us a peak at him. I had a lot more than most!
  • This content has been removed.
  • I've had 2 but was only planning for 1. We didn't even go to a midwife until the very end of first tri. I didn't need a dating u/s and we skipped the nt scan. I had my 20 wk u/s and was diagnosed with marginal placenta previa so I had a repeat scan at 30 wks to make sure it resolved itself. I don't plan on having another one before delivery. Last time I had a dating u/s, the 20 wk u/s and a NST at 39 wks.

  • I have two with my two previous pregnancies and will have two with this one.  My first they did a cervical ultrasound because I had had a LEEP 2 years earlier and then the A/S.  My second I had a dating ultrasound and A/S and this time will have the same.
  • I've lost count. Probably 20?

If you've only had one or 2, consider yourself lucky because it means you have a normal pregnancy.

Also, @duckie23, most people don't have the NT scan because it will change their minds. They do it because there are problems that can be fixed in utero, and so people can educate themselves about issues their child may have and make sure their kid has proper care when it's born.

Hmm, I've had five so far.

One in the hospital at about 7wks since I was having abdominal pain, which my doctor then considered the dating scan, one at 12wks, then the A/S at 20wks, which had to be repeated because the baby wouldn't cooperate, and then there was another at 21/22 wks since the 20wks blood work came back with abnormalities for neural tube defects, so I had to have a high level ultrasound. I'll have one more in December for a recheck on him, since at the appointment for the neural tubes, even though he didn't show any signs for spina bifida, they had concerns about his placenta not giving him enough blood and stunting his growth. So, if all goes well, the last one I will have will be next month.

  • I've only had two, and will not have any more. One dating one at 10 weeks and then the 20 week one.
  • Before 32 weeks I had 3: dating, 1st trimester screening, and anatomy scan. Since 32 weeks (now 35 weeks) I have one every week called BPP. I do not have GD nor issue with blood pressure and protein but my MW is still having me go every week until I deliver to check on the baby.
  • I had one at almost 8 weeks, the nt scan, a/s at 19w and one every 4 weeks since then. Starting next Friday, I have twice weekly testing until I deliver, but I'm high risk so they are always checking on baby

  • I've had four. One at 11 weeks as a dating scan, 13 weeks for NT screening [optional], 19 weeks for anatomy scan, and 36 weeks for a growth ultrasound [unexpected].

  • 10-11. I had one for bleeding early, one for dating, a 12 week scan, a 20 week scan, one or two follow ups due to placenta previa (ultimately it moved), and then weekly tests starting around 34 weeks (GD).

  • I had one for dating, NT scan at 12 wks, 20 week anatomy scan, and 1 follow up at 36 weeks. I was labeled high risk though because of advanced maternal age and thyroid issues.
  • I'm 14 weeks and I've had four, but one was the NT scan and another one was a private one we paid $50 for. So I guess it would have been only 2 not counting the optional ones.
  • I've had 4 at 34 weeks. Viability/dating scan at 7 weeks, checking cervical length at 16 weeks because of cramping, anatomy scan at 21 weeks, and a growth scan with BPP for my GD at 33 weeks. Assuming all goes well from here, next time we see her face will be birth.
  • I will end up with four. Dating scan, NT scan, anatomy scan and at 28 weeks we'll have another to double check some measurements from the 20 week scan.
  • 3: @ 12 weeks, @ 20weeks, & @ 20 weeks + couple days because I switched OBGYNs

I wish was getting another one so I can see the baby but I think that's it unless there's something unusual medically between now and the birth.  We're choosing not to pay for 3D.

  • At my OB's office I've had two (also two earlier at my fertility clinic). They were at my first OB appointment and my anatomy scan. I wouldn't be having any more if I had no complications, but was diagnosed with gestational diabetes so I will have at least a few more.

With DS- I had one, at 20 weeks.

With this one i have had more, thank you IF and stubborn baby.   I'm considered low risk but have still had quite a few.     I had 2 in the beginning to for viablility scans.  ONe at 6 weeks, which was too early, one at 8 weeks.

Then i had one at 20 weeks, but thanks to AP and stubborn baby we couldn't get the shots we needed so I went back at 22 weeks.

Now I am measuring way ahead, so I am getting a growth u/s at 34 weeks.

  • I have had four so far only because I have Gestational Diabetes. They found out at my last one my babies kidneys are dilated again so i have to go in for a level two tomorrow to get a better look at the kidneys which will make 5. I wish I had only gotten the three because I lot of times the kidneys clear up before birth or shortly after and I wouldn't be so worried BUT its better to be prepared in case they don't.

  • I've had three so far and will have one more at 36 weeks.  I'm 35 and thus puts me into advanced maternal age (nice way of telling me I'm older than most people having babies and puts me into the high risk category).  I had one at 12 weeks to confirm it was only one sac (twins run in both of our families), another at 20 weeks and then one at 32 weeks.  At the last one he was measuring big (95th percentile for size) so they are opting to do another ultrasound at 36 weeks to determine if I need to be induced or if a c-section is in my future.  Honestly I don't care, as long as little man is healthy.  It's fun to see him, but he was already in the head down position at 32 weeks so they can't see his face all that well. I'm 34w1d today, so it's getting close to when we get to meet him, so excited!
  • I had a dating scan, but I have long irregular cycles and really had no idea. If I'd been charting and knew my dates I would only have had the 18-20 week anatomy scan and that's it.
  • It's standard practice for a dating ultrasound (7-9 weeks) and a 20 week anatomy scan. You can opt to have a sequential screen, which is done around 12-14 weeks. I'm not high risk, but a month up to my last pregnancy, I had NST's done and monitored my amniotic fluid due to early labor. This time around their taking extra precautions and I'll be getting another u/s when I'm 32 weeks.

  • I had complications with DD and got pregnant with Baby #2 soon after removing the IUD so I had a dating ultrasounds at 6 weeks, genetic testing at 12 weeks, the A/S at 19 weeks........My placenta was covering the cervix at that time, so I had another at 29 weeks and will need another at 34 weeks because the placenta had not cleared the cervix and baby is apparently "a beast" based on abdomen and femur measurements.

Normally though, if everything looks good at the A/S there isn't really a need for additional U/S. They are very costly and I wish I didn't have to pay for so many......

  • I have had 5 so far. One to date, one for NT, two anatomy scans, and one to monitor her growth. I have another scheduled on the 29th to check on her growth again and that will be it. I've had a normal pregnancy...my doctor just seems to be U/S happy.
  • Ultrasound #1 at 9 weeks
    #2 at 12 weeks
    #3 at 20 weeks
    #4 at 32 weeks
    #5 at 33 weeks
#6 at 34 weeks and my last one at 38 weeks. All the ones after 20 weeks were groth scans. But I also get one done every time I see my doctor but that's just on a little portable one to see witch position bubs in.
  • Two: dating and then CAS

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita
