UO

This isn't started yet?

I can't really understand the Elf on the Shelf. I think he is creepy and makes messes. Obviously, I'm a fun hater.

  • I'm in the wanting to feed my baby purées camp. I don't think baby led weaning is a bad thing, but it's to each their own, every baby and parent is different. While I'm waiting til 6 months to regularly start solids, I'll still let Adaleigh taste some things at Thanksgiving (she will be over 4 months old).

UO: I hate wearing socks right now. It's like 32 degrees here and if I wouldn't look like a moron, I would have on flip flops. My feet are smothering.

It was 20 something degrees last night where I am right now and I wore flip flops. I loved every second of it. My toes did not.

I like Tgiving so much better than Christmas.  It's all about food+family plus a 4 day weekend.  I enjoy the Xmas season (decor, lights, music, food), but generally hate the stress of having to find/buy gifts & then getting a ton of awful gifts or crap I don't want.
Since having kids I don't even ask for gift for myself anymore.  The last two years I had my parents buy DS1 new carseats.  There is nothing I need and would rather my boys got stuff they need and we can't afford to buy.

My UO is that while I am sad for my nephews, I am glad my crazy SIL finally filed for divorce from my brother.  He has been dealing with her craziness for the last 6 years and we have all sat by and watched her treat him like crap and push his family and friends away.  I am all for trying to make a marriage work, but sometimes it is just better for everyone to just say good-bye.

I also dislike the elf. But am obligated since mil went out and bought one for dd and insisted we use it. Bleh.

  • I actually don't mind my husband's snoring. It has become like my white noise and when I wake up and hear it I know everything is ok. The only time it irritated me was during pregnancy insomnia.

I'm not a fan either. I am also a teacher, and there are teachers in my building who do Elf on the Shelf in their classrooms. This REALLY bothers me. I feel Elf on the Shelf should be a home thing. Maybe this an UO.
We don't have the Elf, and I don't want it either.  But they have it at DD's daycare... and I gotta say DD1 has been behaving better these days.  She's afraid "Jingle Jasmine" (they named their Elf) will tell Santa she is naughty.  I am enjoying the tantrum free days so I'm cool with it.

  • I don't get all the hype around Frozen - I thought it was one of the WEAKEST Disney movies in a long time.  It had no substance to me - it was all musical numbers forced into a very short, very weak story with good characters but no character development.

    Marry me.

Frozen was "cute." Not bad, definitely not one of the best Disney movies evaaarrr!
Tangled, WALL-E, Finding Nemo, UP... those were all better than Frozen.

I agree with this. But can someone please explain this to my 3 yr old!?! Cause she thinks Frozen is the greatest movie ever made.

  • I don't get why people buy gifts for friends or friends' kids (unless your kid was invited to a kid birthday). Or your friends being invited to your own kids' birthdays.

I agree! I was expecting something much better. It's just eh. The snowman song is catchy though.

    Whaaaa?

I LOVE buying gifts for my friends' kids and they love buying gifts for mine. But then, I love buying gifts for other people in general. Few things in life give me more pleasure than seeing the joy on a person's face when I've picked out something special for them/their child.

Also an UO, I don't think there's anything wrong with spending a lot of money on a wedding. I totally understand when people choose to direct their resources towards things that are longer lasting, but I thought my 80K wedding turned out beautifully and it was the night of my dreams. Of course, it would have been the night of my dreams if I got married in a shack, since it was the night I got to marry my husband, but I can't say I hate looking at the pics.

And here goes a total AW moment. The pic with the confetti was our gender reveal (no one there knew what we were having until we released a burst of pink confetti to "Girls" by the Beastie Boys). And the pic with the fathead is my friend who had died a year to the day prior to our wedding.

  • Do you live in a high cost of living area to spend 80k on a wedding?

  • My parents paid for my wedding so I don't know how much it cost but I doubt it was more than 15k. It was very simple and small (50ppl) but it was amazing and we had a live band playing 60s and 70s rock. Everyone had a blast and I wouldn't change a thing.. I cannot even imagine what 80k would buy. That's more than the down payment on the damn house I want someday.
  • @jennifurs super gorgeous pics!! I know 80k is a lot of money, but up here in the New York metro area, for example, that's what nice weddings cost. It is 'spensive.
For me, I wouldn't like a big wedding, I get uncomfortable being the center of attention. But if someone else wants go big, I say have at it!

My UO: I'm kind of sad that this thread didn't turn into the angry hot mess that was last week's UO.  That shit was entertaining.

But maybe the few replies above me will make this take a turn.

...but hopefully that won't happen into tomorrow, because tomorrow is NOT Thursday and only Thursday is UO day.
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the last sentence here and @BabyM82714‌'s reply were both passive aggressive announcements that you don't agree with my UO this week.
  • @jenniferurs You probably could have made your point more persuasively without dropping that number. ;)

But then how would we all know how much money she has to throw around or how fancy she is??? Barf.
My husband wore sneakers and I had a giant stuffed bird walk me down the aisle. Pretty sure fancy wasn't what I was going for there :).

    Ok Ill just do it.

I am happy you enjoyed your day, I really am!

Just sayin tho sneakers at that super fancy wedding?

Haha, I get that it seems weird, but I'm of the mind that just because something is expensive doesn't mean that it has to be pretentious.

Eh. I could care less what anyone spends on their wedding. $25 and a round of beers? Low-key, laid back and awesome. $100k? I like to pretend to be fancy and dress up.

    It's your day, yo.
This is me too. I've been to backyard BBQs that were just as awesome as really expensive affairs. And like I said, I totally understand why someone wouldn't want to "waste" that amount of money on one day. I was just saying that I don't think there's anything wrong with it if that's what you do decide. To each their own.

And just for the record, I don't have a lot of money to "throw around." My husband does okay, but certainly isn't rolling in money, and I've been unemployed ever since my hyperemesis forced me to quit in the first trimester. The only reason that I was able to have the wedding I did was because my dad died and he left behind money for my mom so that I could have the wedding of my dreams even in his absence. So I'm sorry if people took it as me showing off how rich I am. I promise I'm not.

I figured I was reading it snarkier than it truly was. Sorry to get defensive. Stress overload has me with my boxing gloves on.

I'm weird, and I let weird things annoy me....hence the silly UO this week :)
