Trouble TTC

first RE appointment

I'm excited to finally have a plan. To recap I was diagnosed with PCOS in April by my ob/gyn. I took three cycles of clomid and took Provera before each cycle to get my period since . I haven't been able to get a period on my own. Just reading you ladies talk about how important it is to have a re. I made an appointment with one. My dh and me meet with a re. She took blood work and the results said the I haven't ovulated recently and wasn't BFP. I now am taking Provera. The when I get my period she going to give me an ultra sound . My re said that she will the prescribe Femara and Metaform since the clomid didn't work well. Then my re said for my dh to get a SA. We have to make an appointment to get that done too. I'm just excited to have a really nice re. That I was able to ask questions to and have a plan. I know I have to ovulate before I can think of being able to get a BFP. I have more hope know that I will have that end result.

Re: first RE appointment

  • Welcome! It's great that you're finally working with an RE. From the sounds of it, your ob/gyn doesn't know how to properly treat your PCOS. Make sure you get all proper testing done before starting another medicated cycle. This means CD3 b/w, ultrasound and HSG for you, SA for your husband. Also, read the newbie blog if you haven't already. Good luck!

  • Glad to hear you're working with the RE now. If you needed Provera to bring on a period after a Clomid cycle, sounds like you didn't respond, you had a cyst, or you responded really late...so glad you have an RE now who can monitor your response!

I hope Femara gets you Oing beautifully! :)

  • Glad to hear you're going to an RE now!!! Lots of tests, lots of appointments, but totally worth it! Is your RE going to wait until the SA comes back to prescribe the Femara (The timeline wasn't totally clear in you OP, sorry)? Never start treatment until all tests are done. Of course, that increases wait time, but it'll be worth it in the end  :)

    Best of luck!!!!

Something about this is off to me too. EVERY test should be completed before a script for fertility meds is even written. Is your RE just not good, is information about other tests the RE ran excluded from your post? This is not treatment-as-usual when you're working with a true RE.
