At the 6 month check up yesterday our pediatrician prescribed DS multi vitamin drops with fluoride. Is this something all docs do?? I think it's because we just stopped breastfeeding at 6 months and he only gets formula now. The fluoride is probably because the water here doesn't contain it. I know I should have asked her yesterday but LO was having a meltdown and I was trying to calm him. I'm hoping she doesn't think he is deficient in some vitamin/nutrient. He is in the 28th percentile for weight and the 4th percentile for height which blows my mind cause he seems so chunky. I know not to read too much into that as long as he consistently growing he is fine. I'm gonna send the doc an email with my questions but also want to see how many other babies are taking them.
Re: multi vitamin drops with flouride
We're on a well so also don't have much Flouride in the water, but our pedi isn't worried yet. He had us test for it while I was pregnant to make sure we didn't have too much in the water, and it turns out we just have traces of it naturally. It is on my list for a follow-up question at our 9 mo appt.
IMO the only real supplement they need is vit d, and you can do that by supplementing mom if you're breastfeeding or using carlsons drops.
Do not give your child fluoridated toothpaste, fluoride supplements, or any level of fluoride. Remember that fluoride is absorbed through the skin from bathwater, showers, and then ingested in toothpaste, water, and foods grown with fluoridated water. There is no way to control dosage!!!!
