Northern Virginia, childcare for an infant, what do you pay?

Specifically in the Fredericksburg/Stafford area. What do you pay for care are for your baby? I have a small home child care and have someone interested in having me watch their soon to be born baby when they go back to work. After a quick search through Craigslist and a call to Minieland, I found a range of $125-$220 per week. They think that $180 is too high, but my non-infant rate that my other family is paying is $140.

  • That seems really reasonable, considering the high COL in nova. Are you licensed/1st aid/cpr trained? I'd expect any home provider to be at least 1st Aid/cpr trained.

  • That's pretty good.

I'm in Alexandria, so a little more expensive. When ds was being watched at someone's house as an infant we paid $300 a week for about 30 hours of care. It's a little less when they're not the only child. $200-$250 a week FT sounds like a pretty good deal to me

  • I'm in Woodbridge and wouldn't bat an eyelash at anything under $200 a week.

  • I am in MD, north of Baltimore, which is slightly lower COL than where you are. I was quoted an infant rate of $190 a week (FT) for an in home daycare that had 7 kids to one provider. So I think your rate sounds pretty reasonable. DC centers around here are at least $300/week, most are more.

  • We are 150 for 3x a week in alexandria for a home daycare and I thought that was super low. Cause it's 8-6 if we needed. 250/week.

I am voluntarily registered, a step above unregulated and a step below lisencing. I'm a USDA member, first aid/CPR trained, and passed the criminal history and sex offender checks required by the state for my registration. Plus I keep a low child adult ratio, 5-1, not counting my own. I thought it seemed reasonable, but they didn't. I guess I'll have to decide how much I want to negotiate. Thanks everyone!
