Mamaroo - 4moms

Have anyone ever had the Mamaroo by 4 moms? There is another one as well by 4moms that look similar but I cannot think of the name.

We registered for a swing and a bouncer (Fisher Price) and have gotten both at our showers, but a mom at work told me I MUST have a mamaroo - do I really need this? If I get that should I return the bouncer or swing? I feel like there is so much crap for kids nowadays.

Re: Mamaroo - 4moms

  • We bought a mamaroo, but I obviously can't speak of the necessity of it since baby is still an inside baby! We have a bouncer and a RnP... Our first didn't care for her regular swing or jumperoo activity center thing. I've heard good things about the mamaroo though, so here's to hoping!

  • What is an RNP?
  • I plan on getting it this time... We had the Fischer price swing and it was good but loud and the motor burned out after 5 months! I like how much smaller this one is and the different settings!
  • @AlfiesMOM - would you say since we already have the swing no for the momaroo or return the swing and get the mamoroo.
  • One of my dear friends swears by it, but I can't see myself getting a $300 item that baby will use for 6 months. She bought hers out of desperation, so maybe I will get there- who knows!

  • @ellbellbr‌ - I answered it on another thread for you too, but it's a rock n' play
  • @elleswarth - thank you! Sorry I went back to the other thread and saw your answer. Tried to come back here and delete my question but couldn't figure out how.
  • DD loved her mamaroo, so we got rid of her swing. She liked to cruise in it till she was 10 months or so.
  • We bought a used Mamaroo.  Their other model doesn't have as many options, which makes it not nearly worth the price, IMO.  The Mamaroo has 5 different motions with variable speed for each, and several white noise options with adjustable volume.  We bought ours used for $150 on Craigslist.

Our neighbors have an 11 month old little girl and they just saw it in our nursery and started falling over themselves telling us how much we'll love it - apparently their daycare had one, it was the ONLY thing their little girl would sleep in, so they ended up driving to Target in desperation at 10pm one night to buy one!

  • I would start out with either a Mamaroo or a swing and bouncer. I cannot imagine needing all three.
  • I made it through 3 kids without one.

  • My friend swore by hers although they stopped using it after 6 months. I've been debating but it is so expensive. I think I'll try out the swing we have an if it doesn't work I may bite the bullet and buy one.
  • With DS we had a swing (he didn't really like it) and a RnP (the only thing he would sleep in for the first 4 months). Both of my sisters had the MamaRoo and my nieces LOVED it. I would put DS in it at their house and he loved the different settings.

This time I found one on a virtual yard sale for $75. The women got it as a gift for her 4th child who out grew it in under a month (big kid). I looks brand new!

So did I... That's a really hefty price tag for something you're taking a chance your child won't even like. But would I register for one if I were having a baby shower? Sure! But my fourth child will also survive without a mamaroo, lol. Baby wearing will provide similar movement for baby, plus closeness. That's what we will do.
  • Also just FYI the newer models go faster then the old ones incase people were getting used ones. DD needed all the movement we could get :)
  • My friends who have it love it. We have a swing/bouncer and a RnP from DD so we are gonna pass on it.

  • We were given a Mamaroo at my shower which we registered for.  One of the things that appealed to us was that it did so much and took up less space than multiple toys.  We will have a Snugapuppy at Grandma's :)

I think they are quieter, too. Mine is definitely an older model and makes a noise (nothing terrible, but audible) when working. The ones I saw at the store were whisper-quiet.

  • It's another one of those things that will totally depend on the kid.  Mine hated it, and in an act of desperation I broke down at 4 weeks old and went out and bought a swing, which he loved.  So it's hit or miss.  FWIW, I liked that the swing had shoulder straps so it could be used much longer.  The mamaroo kind of taps out when they start being able to sit up and roll over.

Sorry I fell asleep last night so early! I would return the swing, I don't think you would need both! Its also personal perference if you have the swing and like it then keep it! We don't have one so I am going to get this one instead!
  • I heard the mamaroo has an input for your iphone and will bounce to the music.  I got the Graco Sweetpeace which is discontinued because it has an input for an iphone and you can replace the seat with a snap-n-go

  • I just got one last year for my nephew so I will be using it for my baby due in Jan. I used to work for them and i will give you some general info. Please keep in mind i no longer work for them so this is my personal opinion:

    -mimic natural mother movement
-like breastfeeding, if you want to use a Mamaroo, use it first, swings that vibrate or swing are not natural motions so it can confuse the baby
    - it is on an axis so it an go from sitting up to laying down to fit your needs
    - lightweight and can be moved from room to room
-plugs into wall so no batteries needed
-you can use with your phone or ipod to play music in addition to the other noise settings they have built in
    - up to 25 different setting between the speeds and pre set motions
-to be used until the baby is 25 pounds or can sit up, after the baby can sit up they should not be in a swing or bouncer anyway. People complain about the length of use but it is the same for all swings and bouncers
    - if you buy used it will no longer be under warranty
    - buy buy baby and Nordstrom takes returns at anytime, this was a major issue while i worked there
    - I always suggest buying the nylon version and using the insert. The plush is not worth the extra $50
-buybuybaby/ bed bath and beyond you can use the 20% off coupon
  • My sister has it and loves it!  We registered for it as well :)

It seems like 4 moms make great products that are higher in tech and easy to use! The mama roo moves all different ways, plays music, and you can hook your ipod or phone up to it as well!  We registered for their breeze pack n play as well.  You can open and close it with just one hand.
