Surgery next Wednesday :/

We went to the urologist yesterday to check on the chase's right testicle to see if dropped yet. Noppppe. Luckily it's there which they initially weren't sure about and so they can make it drop but he has to have outpatient surgery next week to do the procedure. They will also circumcise him at the same time since they wouldn't do it at birth because of his undescended testicle. We have to be there at 6 am, no formula/solids after 2am since he will have be under general anesthesia. His procedure is at 7:30 at the children's hospital here. I'm dreading it, I'm so sick. I know the procedure is necessary but it still hurts my heart to know my baby will be in someone else's hands.

Any tips tricks or knowledge about this procedure? The urologist is the best in the area I know he's in great hands but my heart is aching just thinking about it. Here's a pic of my guy for reading this. He's so happy I feel horrible for what he has to deal with next week.

Re: Surgery next Wednesday :/

  • My baby boy had to have a procedure done Oct 10th.. I really have no tips I was an emotional wreck the week before and at the time. I hated knowing I couldn't be there with him and he was with complete strangers but he did great, it took them over an hour to get his IV started but luckily he was already asleep and I wasn't in there. I will be thinking and praying for yall, he will do great and then after you will feel crazy for worrying so much about it.

@heatherbond06‌ how did his recovery go? How long did it take? I have to call on Monday to get all the final details but the secretary couldn't tell me a time frame and I was so overwhelmed talking to the doctor that I forgot to ask how long it takes? Thanks in advance!

@macgrs‌ thanks for the kind words, I hope so!
  • No advice, but prayers for a smooth procedure and fast recovery (and peace for you, Mama!)!

  • @LalaMama81‌ the urologist said that the potential that there is a hernia and he could eventually feel it could happen the longer we wait. Also it could become cancerous & sterile the longer you wait. I'm sure he didn't mean a year or two but I don't want to take chances on something that we can fix now kwim? I tried to hold off but it doesn't seem to make sense too. It just hurts my heart now.

@Dixon813‌ thank you! I'm gonna need it!

@dani+california‌ thank you! Not creepy at all. It helps actually to know it will help him in that department in the future. Ok maybe creepy for me lol but still you know what I mean. I want him to be normal.
  • No advice yet just wanted to offer my prayers and well wishes. I'm sure it's harder on you than your LO. We are in the same situation and his urologist won't do anything until he's 23lbs it didn't seem like he was confident the testicle is even there. They knew right at birth the left was undescended and still performed his circumscion. Its great he has such an awesome urologist and I'm sure everything will go well. You are doing the right thing!! Reading this thread kinda makes me want to go out and get a second opinion. DS doesn't see the urologist again until June and they will decide then what the plan will be.
  • @heatherbond06‌ aww your LO is perfect! Why the cast??

@Nik102‌ we are blessed with an amazing children's hospital in our area and an university down the road that brings many doctors from around the country that study there. I would probably get a 2nd opinion too. He never mentioned a weight requirement, although Chase is 22lbs. He was most concerned with his age. We went first at 4 months for the 1st consult and then back at 7 months (he said 6 but Chase was a month early so they waited the extra month) Good luck to you as well, I'll update after it's done next week and let you know!

Thank you everyone else for the well wishes, the bump gives me peace of mind time and time again I appreciate you all to no end for the thoughts and prayers <3
  • Sending thoughts and prayers your way. DS had a circumcision revision done at 18 mos. He was obvisously older than yours, but he's a BIG eater, and we were able to keep him distracted enough not eat before his 1pm appointment (think long walks and fun sensory activities). It was hard when the anesthesia was wearing off. Our nurse said that all kids cry during this because it's a weird feeling. He was sore for 24 hrs, but after that, he was back to climbing and running, and jumping, albeit carefully. Babies and kids heal much faster than we do. It's been a couple months, and he has no recollection of it.

  • No advice, I can't imagine how hard it must be for you and your family. I hope everything goes smoothly and know that you are doing what is best for your LO!
  • My oldest had a procedure at 14 months for an inguinal hernia. Urologist said it would be the easiest thing he did all day. Honestly everything went great. Staff was so good to us, really made us feel at ease. I read Tina Fey's Bosspants in the waiting room (45 minute procedure) laughed out loud. Great distraction. Highly recommend.
  • @chichi589‌ Hudson's arm was injured during birth. They thought they had broken his collarbone but they stretched the nerve from his neck to shoulder causing his arm to be limp, it's called brachial plexus something. Well his nerves and muscles were coming back sporadically causing him to hold his arm weird. Which then caused the ball of his shoulder to not sit in the socket but on the cartilage, so they went in and injected him with Botox and but him in a cast for 4 1/2 weeks. The cast came off this past Wednesday so only time will tell if It worked the way it should.
  • it seems as though this is a pretty common surgery. I know quite a few families that have gone through this. I've not heard of any type of complication and the surgeries were successful. Good luck to you guys!
  • Good luck with everything! I would be a wreck too. No advice but I'm sure everything will be fine. :) just load him up on some snuggles!

  • My cousins son had it done as well, idk many details but I remember his wife saying it was easier than she thought. Prayers for you guys!
  • He's adorable! Good luck mama. He'll do great.
  • I hope all goes well and a fast recovery for the little guy!
  • My DD had surgery at 4.5mo and the hardest part was just handing her over to the anesthesiologist. After that it was just a waiting game. Bring stuff to keep you occupied. It's obviously not ideal, but you will be strong for you LO and it will be over before you know it. I know DD was allowed to have pedialyte and apple juice up until a few hours before the surgery so that should help with hunger but since the surgery is so early, it probably won't be a big deal for you anyway. My only other advice is to stay ahead of the pain with the pain meds.... makes it much easier on you and LO.

Thoughts & prayers! Fast recovery for your LO.
  • (Hugs) will be thinking of you and your little guy!
  • My Little Dude had surgery to correct his penile torsion (don’t google that, trust me)  last Monday (Nov 10).  It was at Children’s Hospital LA.  The surgery was scheduled for 7am, but we had to be there at 5:30am.  We were told no formula after midnight, breast milk after 3:30am, and water/pedialyte after 4:30am.  He sleeps through the night so I was concerned that he would be really hungry in the morning.  I ended up just getting him out of his crib at 2am, and giving him a bottle of breast milk.  He slept while eating it, so I just popped him back in his crib and he slept till he left.

We had a rough time with the side effects from the anesthesia and pain meds.  If you want more info on that I can tell you, but I also don’t want to worry you.  So let me know…

Good luck to you and your little bean!

Thanks for all the thoughts & prayers. His surgery was postponed due to 4ft of snow we got in buffalo this week! :( good and bad but I was ready to get it over with. I appreciate all the kind words >:D<
  • Here some snow pics for your viewing pleasure haha
  • Thanks I know but at least they cancelled it ahead. I called like 10 times the day before to see if it was still on or not like a crazy momma haha I've never saw so much snow happen in one day! The stories of people in need of food, medicine, & formula is just breaking my heart but I'm just doing my part in staying out of the bad areas to not add to it. Luckily my house is in the random area where we aren't getting much snow. My mom is 20 mins away and has 4 feet. Just crazy so early in the year..
