Gel-like substance in diaper

Good morning ladies! So, for the past two days DS woke up with a gel like substance on his thigh and sleeper. The first day I thought it was aquaphor that DH didn't rub in the previous night. I made sure to rub it in well last night, do I knew it wasn't that. I Googled it and it said Pampers diapers can do that when they get too wet.

Anyone else experience this? Anything I can do to prevent this? I don't really want to change him in the MOTN during the feeding because it wakes him up a lot, but of course I'll do it if necessary.

Re: Gel-like substance in diaper

  • Yeah @Poru it's like a clumpy gel chunks. I'm figuring it's probably not good for his skin for that to be leaking out. He is in size 3 at night and he's only 16lbs, so I think size 4 would be to big. Does pampers have a size 3 nighttime diaper? Sounds like a question for Google.

  • Well they have size 3 pampers nighttime diapers, so I guess we should try that. Thanks ladies!

  • LO used to leak through his diapers at night. We haven't had the diaper burst, though, so I have no experience there. I size up in Pampers at nighttime and haven't had a problem since. He uses size 3 during the day and size 4 at night.

A is also 16 lbs. he wears a pampers baby dry, size 3, overnight. No leaks.

    Same with us for Savannah
  • I was gonna also say to try pampers baby dry size 3. That's what we are using and we've never had a leak

We don't have leaks, just the diaper exploding and oozing the gel substance. I'm going to pick up huggies and pampers overnight diapers and see how they work.

eta- I think going up to size 4 would cause major leakage, so I guess we will stay with size 3 for now. I appreciate the input ladies!

We leaked out of these the first and only time I put them on her for overnight! We have much better luck with the Swaddlers.

I think we need to check out some true overnight diapers and see if they keep her drier, though. We don't usually spring a leak, but she's definitely wet to the touch in the morning.
  • This happened to my son, so we switched to overnight diapers, but I did contact Pampers via email with my concern as I can't imagine the pee soaked gel beads are healthy for anyone to be touching and they did send me some pretty good coupons fo my trouble!
