Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Entertained

I watch an 8 month old little guy who is so very active. I have him 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. My question is, what do you do to keep them entertained? His toys only work for so long and me being preg, I can't bounce and jump around and dance around like I used to. What do you do?

Re: Entertained

  • Honestly, Emerson is best entertained when we're out and about doing errands.  She gets antsy sitting in the house all day.

  •  not to be rude, but why can't you bounce around?  your ticker says you are only 13-14 weeks... you won't hurt the baby by being active.  my 8 month old likes it when I lay on the floor and let him crawl all over me, pull up and tumble over me to the other side.  we crawl around the house together, etc.  it's normal for them not to pay attention to any toy for too long.  when you need a break, try looking at books together on the floor and singing silly songs like "Old MacDonald's Farm" "Wheels on the Bus" "Itsy Bitsy Spider" etc.  GL!

ETA: ditto to the errands.  it saves us on rainy days.

  • Yeah, he loves when we are out at the mall or stores and stuff, but it's really cold up here, so I don't like to take him out too much. Where do you bring her usually?

I have problems with my sciatic nerve. I was told not to even exercise right now. I love doing it, just hurts and sometimes I get really dizzy. He loves books and he's learning Patty Cake. Just learned that he can clap and make the clap noise. It's cute. He sits there and does it all day long.

that makes sense.  I'm sorry you are having trouble with that.  see if the mom might be willing to spring for a push toy - that is the new favorite around here because he can either put things in it (it's a tonka dump truck), flip it over and spin the wheels, stand behind it and push it, or ride on it (when I feel like pushing him around the house :)).

  • I'm paid by the state, his mom is poor, so I know she wouldn't be able to afford anything even though she is working. I usually just buy him the stuff he needs and the state reimburses me. Pretty sweet deal. Anyway, where can I find one of these? He would LOVE it!!

  • also, if he's interested in standing up, you might want to consider one of these (also a good entertainer in our house - just sit close enough to catch him if he needs it)

we got ours from target for $40 a week ago - don't know why it's so expensive on amazon.  GL!

  • Thanks! He's standing and walking on furniture already. Like I said he's REALLY active! :) Santa brought him that table for Christmas this year. I guess he loves it at home. That truck is great, I will have to find one. Thanks so much for sharing. I really do appreciate it.
