Cloth Diapering

I think I finally got my stash and washing routines together! (long post)

I know you ladies get these alot so, I just wanna say thank you for your feedback! It's truly invaluable!

So here's what I'd like to buy for dd due in January (goal is EOD Washing with an extra day of CDs):

Covers:
- 4 thirsties (2 snaps, 2 hook & loop)
- 4 kawaii (2 snaps, 2 hook & loop)
- 2 Econobum (each one comes with 1 cover and 3 prefolds)

Prefolds:
- 12 GMD Newborn
- 12 GMD Smalls
- 6 Nicki (3 snaps, 3 no closures)

10 Snappis

AIOs:
- 3 Rumparooz (old style, I think)
- 1 Lil Joey's (2 - pack)
- 4 BumGenius NB
- 3 Blueberry NB Simplex

Accessories: (2 Diaper bags)
- 1 Laundry Bag (Large Planet Wise Bag)
- 2 Medium Planet Wise Bag for Diaper Bags
- 2 Wipe Holders (Travel size Planet Wise Bag)
- Coconut Oil (just in case)
- Tide he detergent (liquid)

- 60 cloth wipes

Am I missing anything? Do I have too much? Any and all feedback is welcomed and appreciated!

And while we're at it - here's my planned washing routine (for lg hefl machine, pic in a previous post):

Step 1: Quick Wash cycle (no detergent) with Warm Water and Water Plus option

Step 2: Normal - Hot Water - Extra High Spin Speed - Heavy Soil Level - Extra Rinse Option - Water Plus Option (for newborn stage only) with Tide detergent to 1 line on machine (for newborns) and 2 tbsp (after newborn stage with less diapers)

Step 3: Covers & all bags will be line dried (indoors) and all prefolds & inserts will be put in the dryer on Towels - Very dry setting (but can I get away with keeping it on the Normal setting?) with Wool Balls

ONCE A MONTH: Use sanitize as a stink precaution.

  • Don't use sanitize setting on anything with PUL. I wouldn't use liquid detergent.

  • Your stash looks good.  When you say Nicki's prefold with snap or no closure... are you referring to a fitted, not a prefold?  I've never seen a prefold with snaps.  You can also probably really get away with less snappis, unless you just want that many.  And I would have 2 large laundry bags so you have one while the other is in the wash.  (Actually, I think I have a total of 12 wetbags for 2 kids.  I love them so much.)

Take a deep breath about the wash routine though.  It's just laundry.  I would really start simple, then tweak if you need to.  So start with a rinse and spin or quick wash, no detergent.  Then a normal wash, tide to 1 line (powder, not liquid.)  Then another rinse and spin.

  • Thank you everyone! Will have to get some tide powder detergent then and make it 2 laundry bags.

@TJ1979‌ - yea they'd be fitted and not prefolds! Couldn't remember what it was called!

  • Agreed about Snappis. I have 2 and since they are almost always on the baby, I just planned for one per changing station and called it a day. It has been perfect but I understand wanting a few extra. If you want to simplify and still play it safe maybe 5?

  • I thought I'd need to soak them occasionally due to baby pee or something but from what I'm reading it sounds like they don't really get dirty?

  • That would be a quicker way of cleaning them! :)

I'm new here, but I thought I'd chime in and say that I also think it's important to have two large laundry bags. I couldn't get by with just one.
