T's and P's please! UPDATE IN COMMENTS

Baby girl was diagnosed with a port wine stain on her hand when she was born. It took me and my mommy instincts 2 months to convince the doctors they were wrong, as the spot on her hand kept growing. I'm pretty certain it's a hemangioma, which isn't life threatening and is pretty common, but it could mean laser or surgical intervention if that's what it is. Off to the dermatologist this morning to have it checked out. Please keep your fingers crossed that this thing is nothing serious and me and Dr. Google are right.

    Thinking of you guys!

All should hopefully be fine.  DD actually has a few (a big one on her tummy and 2 smaller ones on her head).  Pedi always just says to keep an eye on them and he'll refer to a dermatologist if the ones on her head get too big.  He seems to be more concerned about the cosmetic appearance more than anything.

ETA: She has strawberry hemangioma, not sure if that's the same as what you mean.  If so, I have an aunt and cousin who had them, and they do go away on their own over time.

  • Good luck fingers crossed. Hoping for good news.
  • Lurking from J14, DD has a big one on her back that we are doing treatment for. She takes oral meds 2x a day, I posted a thread in July14 talking about the meds and pictures of progress. I can't link right now I'm on mobile. I know it can be scary but ask about Propanolol and if your LO would be a good candidate, we've seen a great improvement in our DDs. Good luck!

  • So it'll go away in its own? That's great news!! Though if it sticks around I love things like that. Gives a person character. Is that a weird thing to say? I hope you know what I mean :-/

It probably won't completely disappear, but with time, it should flatten and dim down in color. It could be much worse. Lots of kids have them on their faces.

She's perfect no matter what. She will be reminded how beautiful she is everyday!
  • Good for you for trusting your mommy instincts!  That's not east when you have a professional telling you otherwise.  Glad to hear it won't need to be lasered.

  • Sound like good news! LO was born with a cluster of them on the right side of his abdomen. His doctor hasn't really been worried about it, but we're keeping an eye on it. It seems to be getting bigger though, and I'm going to bring it up at his 4 mo appt on 12/1. I'm kind of nervous about the whole thing.

Absolutely! No one will even look at her hand with such a cute lil face.
