Spitting up when nursing

I have been exclusively pumping for my twin boys to get my supply up (they are 6 weeks now) and trying to get back to nursing.  One of my twins is a better latcher than the other so I'm starting out with him.

Problem is every time he nurses, he spits up.  I give him my right side, he's on it for 10 minutes and when I try to burp him, he would spit up.  And then it's the same issue after the left.  Today, I switched boobs 3 times and he spit up 3 times.  He does it less so with a bottle.  He is actually a very good burper.  He might spit up but not that often as he does while nursing.

Has anyone seen this with their LO and anything I can do so that he doesn't spit up after both of us working so hard to nurse?

Re: Spitting up when nursing

  • Spitting up is totally normal and not really fixable. Sorry! You can try keeping him upright for a few minutes after the feeding. But my boys just spit up like crazy until 6 mnths for the first and 10 for the second. My only tip is to use cloth diapers to clean up the mess. Also, it probably looks like more spit up than it actually is and there's no need to worry about feeding more because of it.
