My husband just returned home from a 8 month deployment almost two months ago... Our little blueberry was a big shock but we are so excited and happy! Already found a onesie that says "I'm what happened after Deployment" lol. Anyone else almost pass out when they got a positive test back?

Re: Any surprise babies?

  • We thought we were done having kids,
So yes...definitely surprised! NFP for the win. Lol
  • Loading the player...
  • Not a surprise, per se, but I was effin shocked. It took forever with #1. This was our first try with #2.

  • We have been trying for almost a year. I had my tubes untied in December of 13. I'm also 36 so we figured it wasn't going to happen. Then we got a bfp! I have two kids already. DH has one. We have none together so we are very excited!
  • I was pretty damn shocked... Was not expecting to have any more, especially since my boys were with my first husband... I would like to have been actually married first to my fiancé but such is life sometimes... I know every baby is a miracle & blessing so I'm trusting God knew what he was doing.. Lol

I had just moved in with my boyfriend of 15 months and the same month, we got pregnant. Total shock. But now we get to shock our families on thanksgiving. I have my first ultrasound the day before when I hit 8 weeks
  • We tried for 11 months for our first. Van was born on September 1st 2013 so I THOUGHT trying for the second would take the same amount of time, nope. I was wrong. Got pregnant right away! Due sometime in July, the Doc will confirm on December 18..wish us luck ladies, we need it!
  • Yup! We were not planning to try until next year. Then one night we realized we had run out of condoms and said "Eh, what are the odds?" Somebody up there is probably having a good laugh!

  • I wanted to wait until after my daughter turned 1 in January...but that didn't happen. I was super shocked its my test was positive. I am finally starting to feel better about it now.

  • In a sense, yes.. we've been hopeful for over a year. Had a partial molar pregnancy back in April and had to wait to TTC for 6 months while making sure the molar didn't turn cancerous. Given the all-clear in Oct and we discussed TTC again. Turns out I Oed early (that never happens for me!) and here we are :D Cautiously and pleasantly surprised :)

Yeah we were TTA and I was charting. I ovulated the earliest I ever have this cycle. My cycles are generally long and pretty erratic.

The NTNP conversation had come up so it is something we were hoping to work on in the near future, but yes, a positive pregnancy test was still a shock.

  • Tried for 2 years. Last cycle I had a hsg done both tubes were clogged & we did one cycle of clomid then bam baby! Thought it was going to take much longer but honestly couldn't be any happier!
  • Yes but no...  I was on my second cycle of Clomid so I knew it was more likely, but after a year and a half of trying, I didn't think it actually would!

    Which method were you using?

I charted my ovulation and period aka "natural family planning" and we were careful during my fertile times. This was the first time In nearly 6 years that we weren't careful during my fertile time and I got pregnant. Kind of hilarious and shocking all at the same time. What are the odds? Lol

  • Definitely a complete shock to us. We weren't trying and I was on the pill. VERY happy though!

  • Nice surprise for us :o). DD1 took nearly a year as DD2 7 months. We had decided to try for a third but not sure when would be the best time... Now it seems July 2015 would be good for us! X
  • Hey @IslandDreamin! I totally recognize your avatar/handle from my short stint on the TTGP boards! Glad to see you here and congratulations!!!

We were definitely trying, but were surprised it happened so quickly! But we waited for 3 years after getting married even though I was definitely ready for kids right away, so I do kind of feel like I did my time (not that it's AT ALL the same as the waiting game when you're actively TTGP)!

  • Not sure if it's a surprise... But we've been using the pull out method for over a year w/o conceiving (we knew it's not an effective method of birth control). We stopped the pullout method 2-3 months before October but only near the days before and after period week. Did not take temperature or knew when I ovulate... October was the first month we stop doing that and.... Now I'm here :)

  • Oh hai @kate5all

Thank you and congrats to you too! I hope I can stay here :)
  • We had been trying for two years after a MC and already have a DD4. We quit trying and I was ready to go on the pill when my cycle didn't come. Surprise!! Very excited!!

  • Definitely a surprise. We weren't trying..but, we certainly were not avoiding! I was laughing hysterically when I found out. And the rest of the day would randomly bust out with laughter. It is a good thing. Just a shocker! We already have a 7 1/2 year old!
  • I was definitely shocked. We weren't really trying but not really avoiding. We've been doing that for a year and I finally conceived within days of my grandma passing and the due date is 4 days before her birthday was!
  • We were ttc for over 2 years and were ready to throw in the towel and have IUI. The dr asked that I call the first day of my period so I was waiting waiting for my period and looking at the calendar worried IUI timing would be over Thanksgiving. I saw I was a couple days late and so took a test...as I was packing for a work trip. I left the test in the bathroom and totally forgot about it until about 20 minutes later I thought "I better go throw that test away before hubs finds it on the counter and gets grossed out." So went in the bathroom only to find it sitting there reading "pregnant"!!!! DH made me take every test in the house...since we've been trying we have several! I got a blood test done before I had to travel the next day and dr. confirmed! I guess after 2+ years all it took was the threat of IUI:) Oh and I'd just bought a costco pack of tampons the week prior too, haha! So happy about out little July suprise!
  • Our first was planned but this one was definitely a surprise. In a sense, it's better that it happened this way because it takes the stress out of TTC

  • After being on BC for over 10 years for irregular periods and extreme hormones we stopped them for only one month to see if my body might do better since I was having trouble with hormones again on birth control.

We didn't even really think to use protection because we never figured I would ovulate before I went to my doc and got a new prescription for something else.

We ended up pregnant when I really didn't think it was going to happen.
  • So fun! A deployment baby! November 1st was the AF Ball and DH's bday and I'm pretty sure that's when this little miracle happened.... I guess it's true when you have too much fun you get into trouble LOL
  • Both my DD and this LO were surprises. But this time around we weren't extant doing much to stop it so I shouldn't have been surprised. We were going to start trying next month after a trio to Mexico but someone clearly had other plans for our family.
Please excuse typos....auto correct hates me. =)

  • I hyperventilated and cried for the first few hours. Took several more tests, cried some more. Huge shock but I can honestly say I've never wanted and loved anything more than this "unplanned" baby.
