RNP vs bouncer

I know lots of you rave about the RNP. We registered for it especially because we live in a 1 bedroom apt and it folds up flat, and figured it can also can be used as a place to sleep while LO is at the babysitters. At one of our showers this weekend, we were also gifted an incredibly cute infant bouncer that was not on our registry. Now I can't decide if I should return one, and if so which is more worthwhile to have. My H likes the bouncer because it has toys/entertaining things on it (this is it https://www.walmart.com/ip/Bright-Starts-Comfort-Harmony-Cradling-Bouncer-Merry-Monkeys/35846997) and the RNP does not, but I like the practicality of the RNP.

So for you BTDT moms, what do you think? Is one more useful than the other? Or should I try to find some way to make both work if they serve different purposes?

ETA: we also have a swing that we definitely are keeping, if that makes a difference in your opinion :)

Re: RNP vs bouncer

  • Keep both! They serve two different purposes. We used the RnP for sleeping and the bouncer for some play time.

3-6 months is prime bouncer time so don't give up if LO doesn't seem into it at first(before 3 mos of age.)

  • I would keep both.  Like PP said, they serve 2 different purposes - sleeping and entertainment.  The RnP is nice because it sits taller and is more level with your bed.  Bouncer is good for when you're cooking or doing something around the house and LO is awake.

  • Oh just saw the part where you said you had a swing as well that you plan on keeping.  I personally didn't feel like we needed a swing AND a bouncer when we had DD1.

  • What is a RNP? Checked the blog for acronyms but couldn't find it.

First time mom here we registered for a swing and bouncer.
  • I'd keep both, too. Having options for where to put the baby down is useful, and they both serve different purposes.

  • @ellbellbr‌ - Rock n' play.

We've got both, although I don't think RnP's were invented when we had our first so I can't attest to them. DD loved her bouncer so much, and at one point would only sleep in there, not in the bassinet or her crib. Became an issue for a quick second.
  • I've never had a RnP. My DS Is 9, I had a bouncy seat and a portable swing for him. He loved both. For this LO, we registered for a bouncy seat. The fisher price lamb one (which after setting up I realize it does not bounce, only vibrates) DS loved being bounced, so hopefully she doesn't lol.
We were given a swaying swing from ingenuity from my SIL. Also have a portable bassinet, so I can bring her with me downstairs to do laundry/dishes ect while she sleeps.

  • We never used a RnP, but as @laziestdaisy‌ mentioned, we used the bouncer all around the house when doing tasks like showering, making dinner, laundry, etc.

We actually used a bouncer and a swing. She enjoyed the movement of the swing when she was smaller (2-4 months) and "played" more in the bouncer when she got a bit bigger.
