UTI-Bladder infection advice!!

I had urine test results and the doctor found a high level of bacteria so she suggested to take antibiotics for a week to prevent bladder infection; I have HPV virus with CIN2 and it got worse with pregnancy due to hormones and weak immune system, so I am afraid to get antibiotics if not strictly necessary as my immune system can become weaker! I have no synthoms so I want to wait 10days and repeat test What do you suggest??

An infection that can rapidly cause problems for your baby seems like a risk I wouldn't be interested in. Take the antibiotic. Symptoms or no symptoms, the infection is imminent. Take the antibiotic.

I wouldn't wait if I were you. UTI's and bladder infections can turn into a much more severe kidney infection if not treated. Trust your doctor.

I've had serious bladder and kidney disease since I was a child and had major surgery. I still get reoccurring infections as well. I can tell you this DO NOT wait to take an antibiotic. If there is bacteria present and you do nothing this will spread to your kidneys which is very serious. A kidney infection could cause permanent damage to your kidneys and could eventually cause the death of your unborn child. Bactrum and cipro are the meds used for UTI's and are perfectly healthy. Trust me over the years I have gotten to the point where I no longer get symptoms and my infections are usually caught too late when they have moved to my kidneys. I have been hospitalized several times and I can tell you it is not fun.

Your immune system is suppressed even more than an average pregnant woman and they found lots of bacteria in your urine. The odds of your body kicking the infection on it's own are slim. Take the antibiotic and then insist on another urine analysis after you have completed the week of antibiotics. You can also try to keep a clean diet and drink tons and tons of water to help limit the chance of an infection. A bladder infection during pregnancy is no joke and would cause you to be hospitalized and put your baby in danger.

Agree with PP, I just got over a severe UTI myself. I wasn't a big fan of taking meds while pregnant but the doctor's know what is safe. They wouldn't prescribe the meds if they were harmful. What is far more harmful is letting the infection go un-medicated. Trust me, you'll start feeling it and it SUCKS! More importantly, like PP said, an untreated UTI can be extremely harmful (even deadly) to your baby.

Antibiotics don't suppress your immune system, they help your immune system fight an infection. An immune system that is currently suppressed due to pregnancy. Take the blasted antibiotics before a mild UTI because a severe health risk.

Not trying to be dramatic, but a friend of a good friend of mine had her water break at 20 weeks, and doctors suspect it was due to a UTI (she hadn't yet experienced any symptoms, but they did find bacteria). I'm not a doctor and don't claim to be an expert, but that's enough for me to not mess around with something like that.

Aside from that, I agree with PP who said you're unlikely to kick it on your own - especially with a weakened immune system. I've had lots of UTIs, and they don't get better - they get worse. Take care of yourself and your baby.

I'm on kidney infection #2 in the last 2 weeks. It. Is. Horrible. I spent the last 24 hours in worse pain and more misery than my first labor/delivery. Take the meds.

Asymptomatic (feeling normal) bacteruria (bacteria in the urine) is a big risk factor for preterm delivery. That's why docs check the urine.

This has nothing to do medically with your cin2 or +HPV status. Plenty of women have abnormal paps during pregnancy which resolve after.

Take the medication. Like PP said, if you don't you're putting your baby at risk. Babies have died in utero because the mother had infections of the urinary system.

With 2 kidney infections?!? I am 28 weeks and have horrible back and right groin pain. I went to the dr and they said it's a bladder infection and gave me one dose of antibiotics and sent me on my way. The pain is unbearable in my back and side. I can't walk,move, sleep. Seems really odd to have all that pain just for a uti. They don't think it's a kidney stone or kidney infection. Any thoughts based on your experience?
