Cloth Diapering

Question about staining

Hi ladies! You all have been so helpful as I prepared to start cloth diapering my new daughter -- thank you!

Little one is a week old today and we have been cloth diapering since bringing her home. My question is about stains. I am using powdered tide to the first line on the scoop but I was surprised by how much staining has been left on my diapers. How do I know if they are actually clean? They smell fine but her poo doesn't really smell to begin with. I know I can din the dipes to reduce staining but is there anything else I can do to reduce staining? Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about staining

  • Don't worry about stains.  You can sun them out or they will eventually just wash out.

If you want to sun them out, wash them and then line dry them outside or in a window with direct light when they are still wet.

  • Put another way, as long as your diapers are getting clean, it's not worth your time to worry about stains on a regular basis, beyond sunning them. Anything else is extra work, and really only worth doing when you are preparing to sell your diapers and you want them to look their best.

  • To prevent staining, just don't let her poop on them ;)

Actually if you're super worried about staining, you could use liners, but they're not going prevent all stains, just reduce the chance of them a bit.
