What do you use/plan to use on your baby?

My LO is just over 1 week old and our 1st trip to the Pediatrician prompted me to rethink what I will be using on his skin in regards to bath wash and lotion. The amount of chemicals in the common baby products has me unsure if I want to use them and I'm not sure of an alternative.
So what's everyone using or plan on using?

Re: What do you use/plan to use on your baby?

  • We use baby aveno but I gotta admit I did use baby magic once or twice cuz of the smell!

  • We also use aveeno baby..but I was told not to use lotions until 6m. I don't remember having to wait with DD1 and baby's skin is a little dry?
  • There are lots of great choices.  Some take time to find, but it's worth it.

Personally we will be using a locally made baby shampoo/body wash from Saltspring Soapworks.

As for "lotion", we will be using raw Argan Oil (100% pure) that my MIL makes by hand in Morocco.  Great for me (stretching belly, and painful nursing nips after birth).  And perfect for babies.   We will use it for moisturizing, any massage, baby "acne", any cradle cap, or diaper rash.

    And... that's it.

  • I use Aveeno baby wash and lotion. I also have Aquaphor and Olive oil for her dry skin.
  • I think Burt's bees would be okay, but I got a huge bottle of Dr Bronners castile soap. It's super potent and all natural, so we would just need a few drops per bath.

  • Coconut oil! I also love Weleda products.

  • Started DD with Aveeno but she has really dry skin on the backs of her arms and legs so we switched to Cerve baby. Will use it on this LO as well.

  • We also use coconut oil. I don't always use soap on him in the bath, but when I do, I use Ava Anderson baby bath. You have to order it through a consultant, but it is the best stuff I've found so far. I am pretty anal about what I put on my babies' skin (as well as my own).
  • We use California Baby shampoo, lotion, etc.

  • @lissydee‌ can you weigh in on the lotion? I have only bathed her once last night (she's a week old today) but seems to have some dry skin. Is it safe?
  • My pediatrician said not to use lotion until he is 3 months old, even though they do have dry skin their natural oils end up evening out!
We use aveno baby stuff for Ollie though and will use that for Eli too.
  • @hellosweety18‌ that makes sense, I just know how much my dry hands hurt- wanted to make sure we were ok to skip. Ty! (:
  • Pediatrician advised us not to use anything but water and a washcloth at first, once he's 1 month old we have some unscented Burt's Bees plus various other products that we got as shower gifts in case that doesn't work- I think we have some Aveno and Johnson & Johnson stuff.

  • One of our nicu nurses said aveeno baby lotion was fine, we put some on yesterday where her skin was peeling cause of the diaper. I have no regrets. We haven't done a bath yet but plan to use the honest body wash that I got as a present.

  • We are using earth mama angel baby shampoo and soap. We have organic Shea butter for lotion but are holding off on lotion.
Babies skin is dry but that top layer of skin needs to shed, lotioning will delay this from happening
  • We use Honest Company shampoo and their healing balm on any dry spots.
  • We use Mustela.

  • I've been using this for her diaper wipes, and it's been convenient to just wipe her down all over with one or two of them as her "baths" for right now. I don't use any of the optional oils or scents, so it's a very simple cleaning solution that works well. :)

This is what I'm doing. No soaps yet (I'm paranoid because DS had eczema as a tiny baby) and I got the official okay for Aquaphor from the pediatrician today, even though I've been using it since the heater has been on. I don't put it on her hands, though, because the left one especially tends to end up in her mouth when she's fussy. Ped said if her skin gets bad to put a little vaseline on her hands to protect them.

  • I've been using ARBONNE ABC baby wash lately on the boys and will use it on little girl when she decides to how up.  It's kind of expensive but works well.
  • I have Burt's Baby Bee unscented wash and lotion.  I also have CJ's BUTTer.  I was told to avoid the fragranced kind.  So I picked one where the smells come from essential oils: Mango, Sugar and Mint - yummy.  The original purpose for the CJ's is diaper rash care that is cloth diaper safe, but it really can be used on any dry patches and has been working wonders on my dry hands in this ultra-cold weather we are having.  I still have an inside baby, so my stuff is not yet baby-tested.
