Just a fluke? Sleep issue...

LO is 8.5 weeks and started sleep training about two weeks ago. Basically just implementing nightly routine & zipping her up in her Woombie. Shockingly it was so simple.
We hadn't been swaddling her at all prior, concerns about hip displacia & the fact that she hated it. Anyway she fussed for a minute tops but fell right to sleep & would go a 5hr stretch, feeding, and another 5hr stretch.
Anyway, last night was a disaster. She seemed totally freaked after I zipped her up. I have no reasonable understanding as to why, other that she's a baby & that's how it is sometimes. I think I thought after 12 days we were in the clear.
My question is has anybody has a similiar situation. Basically a working routine that suddenly failed ... Did you adjust or just try to maintain the old one? If so, how long?
I will say I know I got lucky, even though I didn't sleep much more due to paranoia and having to pump through the night, I want to do what's best for her.
Thanks!

  • This happened for us too. We were getting good stretches in crib then he started having issues after his 2 month shots. I've read that babies start to be more aware of their surroundings around 2 months old. We've just been working on him falling asleep on his own in crib again however never let him cry it out. If he is having issues falling asleep I try to pat his head, offer pacifier, and will finally rock him to sleep or offer breast if nothing else is working.

  • She may be going through the second leap of wonder weeks. My LO decided to rebel against sleep for a few days, she wouldn't settle down for hours then she would wake up more often. If that's the case, it'll pass and get better again. Hang in there!

There are several posts about sleep, schedules, and fussiness, use the search function.

  • I'm going through this right now. She slept the best she ever has all last week and then last night could not settle down and waking up after an hour or two. Today she's been on the boob all day and will only sleep in my arms. Hope she gets through this quickly!

The search function is notoriously crappy.

There are also several posts on the first two pages.
  • Thanks, ladies. I just did t want to force her into anything too soon but since it worked so well also don't wanna lose ground :) We'll see how tonight goes. Hopefully well for all of us since she seems more rested in the Woombie. Good luck to the rest of you and fingers crossed it is a fluke and we'll all be back on track soon :)
  • Babies are unpredictable. End of story.
  • I have learned that as a parent you need to adopt the policy that this too shall pass because it will, I promise.
