We don't see ours again until mid January and I am not sure I want to wait that long to decide.... Guess I can just try and see. I just feel like she seems to be spitting most of the meds out these days anyways so I am not sure she's even getting the dose she should. I no longer keep her on an angle after eating and she's fine. She has silent reflux but I used to hear and see her swallow the reflux back down but haven't noticed it in awhile. Maybe I will work up the courage to try it next week.
DD does not have reflux but my DS did several years ago. I recall periodically cutting back on his meds to see how he did and then upping the dose again if he got worse off the meds. I think it is really the only way to know if they are ready to come off. As someone else wrote, you do not to go in for this - you can call and discuss the best way to try weaning if you want or just give it a try if you feel comfortable doing so. No matter what, I believe with all of those meds you need to wean vs. going cold turkey.
@tlp2558 - I think my DS temporarily had more trouble with his reflux after he started sitting straight up because everything was more compressed. It did help to keep him in looser clothing at that time and also make sure his diaper wasn't super tight at the waist.
I asked at his 6 month appt and the pedi said wait until he is 8 or 9 months. I'll probably start tapering down because he is doing great and not on a dose that would even help much for his weight. If he seems more uncomfortable while tapering I'll just keep giving him his regular dose. I was just wondering how all the other reflux mom's were doing.
Our pedi suggested just letting her outgrow the dose. We actually stopped giving her the night time dose and she is doing great. Her reflux overall has improved since she started sitting more and since we give purees.
At our 6 month appointment we asked our pedi and he said to go a head and stop giving him his prevacid once we finished his last dose. He mentioned that he had probably weened himself off of it in a sense because he was still on the same dose he started off with but was bigger. He has handled it well though and we have not seen any reflux issues since taking him off prevacid.
I weaned dd off when we moved because we were changing insurance and didn't have the cash. I refilled it before we left. She was on it 3 times a day. So I started off at 2 times for two weeks and then the last two weeks only in the morning. She has been doing great
We weaned off Prevacid around five months (did not increase dose and slowed the frequency to once a day for a couple of weeks then stopped completely). He still had some symptoms at night so I started giving a dose at bedtime only and he did fine until about two weeks ago when we stopped altogether, been fine ever since!
We've gone down to giving meds once a day instead of two. I give it in the evening so that it can help at nighttime. We've tried taking her off completely, but she always starts spitting up more the day following a no medicine day. We'll talk to her pedi at her 9 month appointment. I'm hoping it gets better by then because she will not take it straight and its a pain to get it in her!
I would love for DS to come off of it but I'm actually wondering if he needs to up the dosage again. I think it's keeping him up a bit at night and I've noticed he's spitting up a lot more during the day. We have our 9 month appointment around Christmas, so hopefully things improve by then
