I need your opinions

We are still finalizing a list of baby names, and most likely won't decide until she's born. A name that we both love is Clara. My husband vetoes everything so finding a girl name we both love is like a Hallelujah moment for us. Our angel baby's name is Claire, and we would love to honor her, but are Claire and Clara way too close? Would it be weird? We both also love Cara/Kara. Maybe that's a better option? Be honest with me, I can take it. I just want us to both love the name we pick out, and I don't want our daughter to hate her name either. I've said it before, but naming a child is freaking hard!

  • I love Clara. I think it's beautiful!

  • It's pretty close. It would make a nice middle name.

  • Is Clara pronounced Cah-lara or Claire-ah? If you have your angel baby Claire honored somehow whether friends and family know her name or maybe a memento with her name on it then Clara pronounced Claire-ah is too close IMO. If not, then go for it. Cara spelled Cara is also a very nice option.

  • Agreed with PP, I love the name Clara. I absolutely think it is an appropriate tribute to your angel baby.

  • To be honest I remember seeing in your siggy about your angel baby.  That was the first thing I thought when I saw Clara.  If you think it may be too close what about using it as a middle name.  I do think it is very similar to claire.  Would it be difficult for you if that was her first name?

We would pronounce Clara like Claire-ah.

We could use it as a MN, but we really like it as a FN and most likely won't use it as a MN. I don't think it would be difficult/too sad for us to use as a FN since it's a name we both love. Honestly, I kind of like that it's similar because I know Claire will never be forgotten, and I believe she has a hand in her brother and sister being healthy.

  • I love Clara and think it's beautiful you want to name your daughter that to honor Claire. I don't think it's too close.
  • I love Clara. I agree that if your angel baby were here then it would be too similar but it is a nice trubute and a beautiful name.

  • After reading through I say use it. The only concern I would honestly have is whether it would make you treat this baby differently because of the name. If it won't then I think it's a beautiful tribute.

  • Clara is our front runner too!  I think it's a great name and would be a wonderful way to honor your angel baby.

  • I really love the name and think the reasoning behind it makes it even more beautiful.

  • I love both names.

    Points to consider though:
    1) Are you/DH ok with constantly explaining where the name came from?  People tend to ask.

    2) How do you think she will feel later on knowing the origin of her name?  If your mom suddenly told you that you were named after another baby who passed, would you think that was neat or would you be creeped out?

    Pick whatever name you/DH love.

I love the name, but I also completely agree with @Angeldcf's points. Good luck!
