Travel or cancel the trip?

R and I are supposed to head to TX tomorrow to visit my family. This will be the first time they get to meet him.

Except he came down with a cold, which I'm pretty sure he's giving to me. He was stuffy yesterday but happy. Last night was awful. I don't think we slept more than 30 min at a time. He just kept crying. He doesn't have a fever. He's up now and a little cranky but not too bad. He is congested but his breathing is fine otherwise.

Obviously if he's bad today I'm going to take him to have his ears checked, etc but otherwise do I still fly with him tomorrow? Or cancel? What criteria would you use to decide?

We have 2 flights. I'm on southwest so can cancel/reschedule without penalty.

My family will be devastated and I'll get the most horrible guilt trip and my mother will cry if we cancel. But I need to do what is right for my kid first.

  • I'm probably overthinking it. My main concern is really his comfort during the flights with the pressure changes. I will definitely try to nurse him during takeoff/landing. He won't take a pacifier, so I'm hoping he won't be too distracted to nurse.

  • If it's just a cold I would take him. But for your own piece of mind you could have the doctor check his ears.

    The lovely Texarkana. Fun times....

I grew up right outside of Houston, but my parents moved after I left home.

:-( I'll let you know if we decide to drive down to visit my little brother while I'm there.
