Quitting Breastfeeding

I am so sorry if this has been brought up. I can't seem to remember any recent posts so hoping for advice. We leave a week from today on vacation and I had weened myself down to just one feeding at night without engorgement or discomfort. I havent BF or pumped in a couple days and my right breast is engorged and miserable while my left is soft and fine. I've been wearing a tight sports bra, taking antihistamines, had tried cabbage, and avoided stimulation on my breast. How long until this righty feels better and milk stops producing? Any other tips to quit and ease the engorgement while not stimulating more production? Btw taking off my sports bra, my poor boob looks like a lumpy hard mess. Like one of the grapefruits that was on the bottom of the pile and ends up all misshapen. I threw that in just for shits and grins. :)

  • Eek 5 teeth?! My LO has 2 and the nibbles here and there HURT! Good luck. My lefty is still doing great but righty still kills me. Plus LO was hanging out in bed with me this am and kicked the crap out of my boob.
  • I know they say don't do anything to stimulate your nipples while weaning, but I finally had to pump. It was after days of being miserable. It emptied them out and made me feel better and they never refilled. I think I had essentially stopped making milk by that point but it wasn't really going away. Maybe you could try that?

  • Yeah - the mastitis risk isn't worth it. Pump just enough to relieve the pressure, no need to go crazy with it.

  • @Katie122491‌ That's interesting. May give it a try.
  • With DS1 I started off pumping like crazy because I planned to pump and feed, then we discovered MSPI so I just backed down pumping sessions. I pumped less frequently and for shorter times each time. It took a little while but I wasn't uncomfortable.

  • @Jcrewgirl85‌ milk soy protein intolerance. He couldn't have my milk until it was completely dairy free and at that point I was a FTM with a husband I only got to see a few hours a week so we switched to special formula instead.

  • It took me a good 3 solid days before I felt better. First two days were so painful. I stayed at my mom's for about 5 days so I could use her help. I still got up to feed her and I should have gotten my mom because it cause me so much back pain and I couldn't hold her. I switched between motrin and tylenol. I didn't try anything else because it wasn't an option.

    It's a BOY
