For those pay OOP - question on multiple cycles

We're doing a FET in January where our RE "discounted" the price by 1K because our first cycle did not result in a live birth. I'm praying that the FET works but trying to also realisitcaly budget for another IVF cycle if we need to.

Has anyone's RE offered a discount for the 2nd cycle if you are paying OOP? Just wondering if it was common or not. I will definitely ask if we're in that position. Thanks!

No, I've started four IVF cycles OOP and never been offered a discount, so that's pretty awesome of your RE. I don't think it is very common to offer discounts, especially if they have programs (shared risk or package programs) because it would likely back-fire on them if other patients, who did buy the packages, found out.

I was offered a discount this cycle since it was our 4th cycle with the clinic. I'm hoping or FET in January (should we have any frosties) will also be discounted.

Sadly, we don't have any for an FET but our doctor doesn't offer any discounts regardless. Wish they did, that would be nice. I feel like they should offer some sort of discount, my husband and I spent close to $17,000 on this cycle alone, after being told our chances were "great". In the end our chances weren't so great, I know the doctor can't always know, but he is supposed to be one of the best in our state, with very high success rates and basically I feel like he did the wrong protocol on us, and was just totally wrong. He also knew it was most likely our only shot. I don't know that we would have put ourselves through this physically and emotionally if we knew what our chances actually were. I think I'm just angry that my cycle wasn't as "great" as I was expecting. Sorry I rambled on, but long story short, no discounts were offered to us.

We were not offered any discounts. However, we switched to the shared risk program for IVF #2.

I bought a one cycle plan at my Clinic, and when the cycle failed, I requested if I can upgrade to their 3 cycle plan, which the RE was nice and said I can upgrade. We thought we didn't need to get the 2 or 3 cycles and our success rates were higher but it didn't work out well.

Nope. We don't have a multi-cycle package at our clinic though (or shared risk - which we don't qualify for at other clinics anyways), so it could be different for us? That's awesome that you're getting a discount for the FET! Hopefully you won't have to ask about a discounted fresh cycle

Chiming in late. Our 1st IVF failed and my RE discounted the IVF fee by about $500 and 20% off the cost to freeze and do ICSI (those costs are all broken out in their fee). So overall it was about a $1000 savings. Not significant but I'll take it. And obviously the money we pre-paid for freeze and PGS for IVF 1 is being applied to IVF 2 since it didn't happen. That was almost $6000 and the only reason we are able to jump back into IVF. After this cycle we will be wiped out for awhile.

Our first four cycles were purchased as a package. They did not offer us a discount on more IVFs. My current clinic does offer discounts for repeat patients. They have been extremely generous with offering us a significant discount for a donor egg cycle using donor eggs. Unfortunately for us we cannot afford even the very discounted donor egg cycle using donor eggs, since we have spent a sh!t ton of money this year cycling

I think it's worth asking for a discount, the worst they can say is no. Good Luck!!
