When to switch from Nutramigen

My DD is about 5 1/2 months old.  We have been using Nutramigen because of horrible gas pains.  It works great.  Now that she's getting older the pedi recommended switching back to normal formula.  I would like to since it's a lot cheaper, but am hesitant.  Has anybody switched successfully?  At what age?

 TIA

Re: When to switch from Nutramigen

  • My 1st was on Alimentum and stopped at a year when we tried cow's milk and she was fine on it.

My 2nd is 7mo and still on Alimentum after being on preemie stuff (she was full term, but couldn't gain weight).  She'll likely be on it until a year when we try cow's milk.

Both of them are on it because of reflux issues and problems with the regular formula.  I was never able to switch back to regular formula, but I was able to do milk easily with my 1st.

Neither of them could tolerate regular formula or any Enfamil products.....and Good Start made them poop blue.  I have some strange kids!

  • We switched at 6 1/2 months to Similac soy advance.  We went cold turkey to the new formula and he's done great!  Good luck!
  • At about 7 months we switched cold turkey to Good Start soy and it was great!  You'll be surprised how much they love "regular" formula!!  Good luck!
  • At our 6 month appt our pedi told us that at 9 months we can try yogurt and cheese and if all seems to go well then we can try switching back to regular formula. If we have problems with yogurt and cheese then we will try again at 1 year.
