Pediatrician Interviews

So I have my first pediatrician interview set up for tomorrow (and then one more next week) and was searching around to see if I could find a good resource on what questions I should be asking since I am a FTM.

I found this as an option

Would love to hear if STMs or other ladies had some suggestions on must ask questions.  I feel like this is the last big thing I need to get accomplished before the baby comes, so I am excited to get this checked off finally!

Re: Pediatrician Interviews

  • I would ask about there hours. Saturday hours are invaluable in the 1st year when you have lots of appointments if you work during the week. And also when they are sick and its the weekend.

When we interviewed our pedi for our son 4 years ago I think I asked one question and then he just went over a ton of stuff and we left. We were happy with what he said and he just kind of meshed with him which i think was more important. You want to feel comfortable with the doctor because once LO is here you will get nervous and you will have question and you are going to need a doctor that you can trust and dont feel silly calling over little things.

  • I would also ask if breastfeeding is important to you. If it is, then that is one place you can focus. Lactation consultants on site is huge. My son's pediatrician is a lacatation consultant herself, which is awesome! She is also pushing for the other peds in her office to become certified, so thw thowl office is very pro-breastfeeding. It was an absolute livesaver for us when my son was very young. I also second asking about days and hours the office is open. Or if you do need a doctor after hours, who do they recommend you see. Other than that, just find someone you mesh with that feels like a good fit.

FTM here, we interviewed a ped yesterday and found this list helpful:

We just asked the ones we found most relevant. And I would definitely research on your own the questions that can be answered on the dr's website, by staff, signs, etc.

Other questions we asked particular to our situation: 1) Dr's view on BFing while on certain medications. 2) When we should sched our first appt (a diff ped is seeing the baby at the hospital bc of insurance issues)

ETA: Good luck, hope it goes well!
