Where/How Much?

Hi Lovelies, was trying to search for this thread but am mobile so here goes... Baby is in daycare (facility) 1-3 days per week. He has two main teachers, we are removing him for 6 weeks because family will be in town to watch him so am doing their gifts now.

Want to do gift cards but how much and yo where? We spend $81-$175 ($116 avg) per week on DC. Is $75 each teacher a nice gift or too little? Where to? I live in Phoenix and we are around tons of shopping, so don't know if I should do a mix of Starbucks/Target or?

Thanks and I won't be offended by any answers. :)

I'm in Cleveland - Liam's day care is in a suburb and we won't be doing more than $20 gift cards each for his three teachers. And he's there full time.

$75 is more than we spend on a niece or nephew... BUT if that's what you're able to do and want to...

  • As a teacher, I'd feel weird to get a gift card for more than $10 unless it is clearly designated for school supplies.  I'd do $10 to whatever the local coffee joint is.

  • I certainly will not be spending that much on teacher gifts! I barely spend that on Christmas gifts for the kids. 2 kids at 2 teachers each is 300$, entire Christmas budget is like 500$. Don't know what the norm is there, maybe if it's a ritzy neighbourhood that might be the average but I think we are going to do like 20$ gift cards to Tim Hortons and call it a day.
  • My DH and I are definitely not rolling in it, and are removing him while family is here to watch to save money. Our combined Christmas budget for everyone is about $600 so it would be adding extra money on, but they def deserve it. I read somewhere that you should be spending a weeks worth of where they are on it, so it made me nervous. I feel most comfortable giving $50 each and then cards but don't know what is normal. A gift is a gift, but really curious. Thank for the answers!

Do you know what time that promo starts, did they publish that yet? I'm all about that!

  • That's a super generous gift considering your kid only goes there part time. We do $50 for our in home provider, who watches our kids 3 days/wk.

  • I was thinking I could also do a $25 target card, bath and body lotion and a $5 starbucks card. Would end up being about $10 less per person and might show more thought. I keep changing my mind too. Oy.
  • That's very generous, a little over generous IMO. It would make me feel guilty. The nicest gift i received as a daycare provider was gift cards to a local coffee shop and a nice card. Kind words go a long way. $25/teacher is substantial in my book. And I used to do that for a living.
  • Thanks I toned it down a lot from what I was thinking cuz it wasn't in our budget and I personally like the thought, so I'm sure they are the same. (:
  • When I was working as a daycare teacher at a center, one of the neatest gifts I got was a dollar store old fashioned pop corn container with a package of microwave popcorn and a movie theater gift card with enough for two tickets. I think packaging a gift card in a creative way makes it much more thoughtful. The biggest monetary gift I ever got was $50, but that was for a preschool graduation. Most of the time they would be $10 gift cards or a simple item like a mug, necklace, etc. :)
