Outdoor activities you are stopping for baby

Hey girls! I just left my first appointment with my doctor and everything went well. I'm an active girl and water sports have been a big part of my life, surfing and SUP. Well, even though exercise is great during pregnancy she advised that I stop surfing. I know its for the best and I'll be back in the water next year. Even if that means missing out while we're in Hawaii.

With that said, are any of you girls going to miss out on skiing, snowboarding or other outdoor activities this winter ?

  • I have to miss out on skiing this season. We live in Colorado and have great access to the slopes but I don't be able to enjoy it. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying ski pass insurance. Doctor said I can't have any strenuous exercise above 8500 ft! We are planning a ski holiday during Christmas since my MIL is visiting and all I can do is possibly snow shoeing. It's really a bummer.

  • I had to stop riding motorcycle. Dr advised to quit at 20 weeks during my first pregnancy. I rode it at around 14 weeks and never got back on. I was terrified the entire time. Nothing else really, we had no skiing trips planned this year so I don't feel so bad missing out!
  • Horse back riding): so sad about that.
  • Hunting. I had a major allergic reaction to something in the field last year and don't want to hve go thru that on top of my nausea this year and I'm not sure if the shots I had to take would be okay for baby.

Wow I never thought about the altitude having an effect but I can see why they want you to avoid it. Snowshoeing is great but definitely not as thrilling as hitting the slopes.

I hear ya girly! My wetsuit and board will be on hold for a year.
  • We don't ski often, but that'll be on hold for another year it looks like!

I'll need to phase out mountain biking eventually (I wreck a lot) but am still trying to get in a few rides while I can.

  • I normally go out for rifle season hunting but am passing this year. I am very accident prone and normally use a tree stand. DH isn't a fan of the idea of me going out there by myself and to be honest it's best that I don't anyways.
  • I skipped deer hunting this year and will be skipping ice skating and skiing too :( super bummed.

  • I'm a former competitive figure skater so I have to give up skating and coaching while pregnant :(

also very sad to be missing out on the hot tub time at our upcoming ski vacation with friends. I never ski anyway so that's fine...I get massages, sit in the hot tub, drink wine and shop while everyone else is on the slopes (guess I'd better come up with some new activities since half my go-to's are out lol).
  • Snowboarding.  DH and I finally broke down and bought snowboards last year.  Looks like they will be collecting dust in the basement this year.
  • Am 9weeks n I played netball today! But will need to stop in a few weeks because I get too tired.... :(
  • Missing my annual ski trip for this year which of course is all my mother has been talking about and planning with me since we haven't told them yet. Also, little sad that I can't compete in my barrel racing series next spring but I'll continue to ride my good-sane horse as long as I can at a much slower pace (my crazy one will have to wait until after).

Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.

Did your OB tell you no riding or is it a personal choice? I was told it's safe depending on your skill and the horse but to take it down a notch once you start showing due to balance issues.

  • Skiing, ice climbing, and horseback riding. My horse can be unpredictable sometimes.. I will probably be looking for a new home for her soon anyways :(
  • I am a trail runner, but I've given it up now that the weather has turned nasty.  I don't want to risk a fall on ice--I fall enough as it is, when I'm not pregnant and the weather is good.

I miss it, but it's worth it--and I will be back out there next summer!

  • Skiing here.  We were planning on taking our daughter skiing for the first time this year but I guess we'll have to put that off for another year.  I even got her ski bibs and jacket which won't get much use in our southern climate.

Yay, another mountain biker!  I'm still riding mellow, familiar trails but know I will have to phase it out as the bump throws off the balance.

I'm not a big skiier, but will miss it when we are in Tahoe in March.

OP, sorry you're vacation will be affected. I understand - even though it's a happy time, it's hard to feel like you're "losing" something that's such a big part of your identity.

  • This was the year DH and I were finally going to go snowboarding...but I guess next year will be the year. I'm really going to miss floating down the river in May when it's warm.. DH won't let me go this year due to the baby, and he says no camping this summer either :/

  • No skiing for me (I probably haven't taken a spill on my skis in over a decade but it's not worth risking that some newbie could come out of nowhere and wipe me out). I will probably still go ice skating at least once this winter (DH and I like to go to the Frog Pond in the Boston Common for a winter date night) - I played ice hockey so I'm steady on my skates but DH is a little wobbly so we typically go pretty slowly and hold hands near the edge (so he could grab the railing if he started going down).

Yeah I'm not sure I understand the no river floating or camping?

@mindaa - high five for mountain biking chicks! Will definitely miss the trails next spring.

  • I have never wanted to sit in a hot tub more than I do right now in my whole life - I am constantly freezing cold! Drinking in England is like a national pastime - I'm seriously missing out! x

DH and I normally go to a pretty out of the way place, due to me not being that great of a swimmer and the river we go on is rough we won't go this year. And no to tent camping cause we sleep on an air mattress which he thinks will be uncomfortable and hot 8 months pregnant. We might be able to go in august if we get a sitter.
