My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the dinner and eating too much pie. We used to always go to my Grandma's and I loved it because even though our family was small it was one time of year we were all together sharing a meal. Since my grandpa passed my mom does Thanksgiving. It's nice but different.
This year we'll go my parent's house but I think my mom is making pasta instead of turkey. I'm slightly sad about this. She tried to convince me to do Thanksgiving. I'm pretty sure she's crazy. We fly out for Mexico next Sunday and I would have DS all day by myself because DH is working 6a-6p. I'm not cooking for 15 people by myself with a 2 year old.
We usually watch the Macy's parade and eat a bigger breakfast because dinner is so big. Lunch is very light. Ususally we also put up our tree that day but this year we put it up 2 weeks earlier.
We do Thanksgiving with just the four of us. We try to get SD's here every year but they never come. We cook the whole dinner: turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, etc. We end up eating leftovers for a week but oh well. Of course Maya won't eat any of it, so it's really just the three of us.
Favorite part of Thanksgiving is food-related for me: stuffing. The traditional version that my mom always made that I have adopted as well is a sausage and mushroom. We alternate years between cooking for DH's family or going to my aunt and uncle's. My aunt's cooking this year, and I'm excited to have the year off, eat her amazing food, hang with family and just relax. DH always says it's his favorite holiday bc it doesn't have all the craziness of Christmas. We don't really have any new turkey day traditions. Most likely, post-dinner, the men will all watch football then go outside to smoke cigars while the women talk and the kids run around like wild children, lol.
The best part of Thanksgiving this year will be the day before, I get to see my half sisters and their kids, it has been too long this year because of everyone moving and living in different states. We will be getting all the kids together for the first time and having them bake cookies.
I've decided that I'm getting a magic sleep suit today. I can't take the up every 30min any more, we are on something like week 4 at this point. I have gotten to the point where I don't remember driving from one place to another, so I'm willing to try anything.
It may also have to do with DH calling this morning to let me know that he's got to stay in Europe an extra few days.

The best part of Thanksgiving is shopping. :-) My Mom and I have gone Thanksgiving night/Black Friday shopping since I was in high school. We have such a good time.
We drive out to the outlet mall on Thanksgiving when it opens at 9pm, then stop at Target on our way back into town, go home and sleep, then go to the mall after we get up. There's no one at the stores by around 8/9am, yet all the door busters are still going on, so it's awesome.
The bastards at work have now "fixed" our computers so I can't connect my camera, or insert my SD card. So I cannot do my Christmas cards at work like I wanted to today. Seriously. I also can't play CDs anymore, or plug in my iPod. Apparently music at work is a no-no, even though everyone streams to avoid working in silence...

I loved the cookie baking not the non sleeping child. I'm not looking forward to those days with a newborn. I hope the sleep suit works. Also nice of DH to stay in Europe! I'm jealous!
Last night I stopped at the mall to see if I could find a few things for our vacation. I trying on about 20 shirts and about 15 of them I loved. How does that happen? I never find that many. I put a few back since I bought 3 for work, not vacation. I came home with a huge bag. DH just looked at me like I had 2 heads.
Also my buying spree continued when I ordered DS new winter boots, his train table and a game for my nephew. Then I went and ordered our personalized tree skirt, DS's ornament and then I ventured to William Sonoma and ordered a pan. Ugh. I'm hoping all of this comes Friday when DH is working.
Ok, so we got an email at work today saying "please bring $10 to the Dec. 1 meeting for the boss's Christmas gift."
Uh, no. I'm sorry. I can't contribute to extra boss/manager gifts this year, especially since I'm handing in my notice. I think it's rude to just expect that everyone wants to contribute to a gift, when it hasn't been discussed at all. The admin that does this also does this for our boss's birthday, Boss's Day & last year we did a special "collection" because her brother was sick, so we donated a big gas card to his family.
The discussion topic at Gymboree last week was Thanksgiving traditions. It was me, a mom from Peru and one from England. They were all we don't really celebrate Thanksgiving and I was all um . . . I like pie?
I realized I was out of TP in the master bath after I peed so I asked to go get me some from the other bathroom. It didn't quite work out as I had hoped. "Here go mommy!"
DD loves when people get hurt. She thinks it's hilarious. She's totally that dick that laughs when people fall. She also isn't that interested in TV. I got her to watch Home Alone and she absolutely loved it. She was full on belly laughing watching them get hurt in the house. My life felt complete to be enjoying Home Alone with my kid. It's one of my favorites.
DS is like that too. And the harder they fall, punch etc the better. So it's hard for him to understand that it in fact hurts when he does something to us when he's playing kind of rough. He just doesn't get it.
The first Thanksgiving with the kids was hard. They were at the peak of their MSPI, before I really knew it was our problem. So much crying and spitting up. I actually began my elimination diet the day after. I managed to get a traditional meal on the table, but it was unceremoniously eaten as quickly as possible while holding babies.
Last year, DH was gone. Another wife invited me to spend the holiday with her family. It was really nice, but not the same. Kids had a meltdown and we left before dessert. I didn't have any leftovers either - aka the best part.
I'm really looking forward to this year. It's just us four since we don't live near any family. We've booked the river side, mountain cabin that we went to over the summer. I have a fabulous meal planned and I'm spatchcocking the turkey. The day after, we're going into Leavenworth. It's a Bavarian town that goes all out for Christmas. There's a big festival and Christmas market that weekend. Kids will get to decorate paper lanterns and then we'll walk with Santa and Mrs. Claus in a little parade of sorts. I'm really excited about it all.
I remember you talking about this before. That sounds seriously magical! You deserve a Thanksgiving to remember, enjoy!
We do Thanksgiving with MILs family, it's at my ILs house so we don't have to travel, thankfully! After the meal, we all sit in a circle and go around saying what we're thankful for. They've been doing it since MIL was a kid, so it's a big tradition for them. It's actually way more fun than it sounds!
Food. Family. Christmas tree the next day. We will be having two thanksgiving this year. I am in charge of pumpkin pie at both. So I am going to make it from scratch. I did buy canned pumpkin and pie crust just in case haha.
Last Thanksgiving I stayed home with a very sick Sawyer and ended up taking her to Urgent Care. Double ear infection. This year I'm hoping to eat all of the stuffing at DH's grandparents' house. @BobKat22 Our Christmas Eve tradition is to open our new Christmas jammies, put them on and watch Home Alone. @Hyaline I LOVE Bing Crosby. I wanted to name Lennon Crosby but DH wouldn't go for it.

Where can I find self inking stamps? I remember crayola stamp markers from when I was a kid, but I can't find them now. DD has been happily playing stamps all morning, but she has trouble inking them up.

We are hopefully doing Thanksgiving with my mom, sister and her kids, and my aunt and uncle. The only thing that will possibly prevent that is DH's surgery. Anyway, I just love this time of year, being with family, cooking yummy food, and just sitting around talking and enjoying each other's company.
We don't really have any holiday traditions, but whenever my sister and I are together, we do Black Friday shopping. We don't generally connect, but this is something that we have fun doing together.
So aside from thinking it was Wednesday womp, womp what's going on ladies?
What's your favorite party of Turkey Day? What are your plans this year? Any traditions you started after having your LO's?
My mom told me on Saturday that my uncle, cousins and their families are coming here for Thanksgiving. I was so excited until my DH rained on my parade by reminding me we are going to Chicago to see his family.
I'm hoping Chicago will have snow (sorry IL girls!) while we are there.
I prefer Thanksgiving at home where we eat early, then watch the Cowboy game and sort through all the Black Friday ads, then head out for some shopping. Not really sure what the plan is this year, I'm just along for the ride.

Extended outlook looks like you might just get your wish. Honestly, at this point...I'll take it. Snow is better than rain and white is better than grey. It's going to be cold for the next five months and I have accepted this.

James does this. I think I made too big a deal about not using much paper. I asked him to get some TP to blow his nose, he brought me a corner of one piece. I had to tell him how many squares to bring.

I went to my doc appt for an ultrasound for a spinal concern, glucose test, and reg appt. They were like uhhhh you're not scheduled until Dec 18. I was like, uhhhh, no. Here's my appt card, and my last appt was 4 weeks ago so it would not make any sense to go 8 weeks in between appointments....
So now they can't get me in until Dec 4. Great. Thanks for wasting half of my day and now I get to worry about the baby through the holiday.
I had planned to have everyone to our house, both families basically to get it over with. However last week MIL decided she was having dinner at her house so BIL and FSIL are going there instead. So its just my parents, brother and us.
Which i think will work better. Less stress, a little less cooking and more fun for all
And best of all, MIL and FIL wont be there to insult my cooking and make rude remarks like last year - so a win all around.
My family makes the best thanksgiving food - fried turkey and dressing with oysters!
A bunch of weird relatives invited themselves last year, and did so again this year We like to eat, watch football and look through ads, and nap. It totally screws everything up, and my siblings are upset because one family member is a recent recovering alcoholic so they've asked that nobody drink any booze. Whaaa whaaa.
@BobKat22, we do that too. Our Thanksgiving has dwindled down to just 12 people (4 of them kids) and that's what we do. We eat, go through the ads and watch football. :-) It's always at my aunt's house and she makes terrible, super dry turkey, but I still love it. (not the turkey, the day in general)
We usually end up splitting the day between my parents and my ILs.
Last year we did just my family because they were feeling neglected and it was horrible. My alcoholic aunt who isn't supposed to be drinking got drunk and crazy, so this year I'm actually happy that we are going to my ILs.
There's roughly 40 of us at ILs for Thanksgiving, 3 or 4 turkeys and usually a ham also. Before we we eat, everyone goes around and says what they're thankful for, and it usually ends with at least a handful of people crying. H's grandfather passed away earlier this year, so I imagine there will be many tears.
I am decorating for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving, and we are getting our tree that Sunday. I am so excited, and we should have all of the contractors out of our house by then, which will be a celebration in itself.
I'm hosting Christmas Eve again this year and I am pretty freaking excited. I revamped my Christmas decorations (some of you saw my Home Goods haul last week) and am going for a country/rustic Christmas.
I cannot freaking wait.
Also, the entire house is wired for sound, so all of the Christmas music in all the rooms...even bathrooms.
H tried to get him on the phone last week, and he won't return any calls, so we're just in a holding pattern right now.
I'm bringing in another company to do a walk through and give an estimate on fixing what he fucked up, and if we have money leftover after paying all of our contractors, we will have it fixed, otherwise we will have to wait. I have a feeling that having it fixed is going to cost more than we actually owe him because areas will need new dry wall, paint, etc. Plus, apparently one of the main switches in the house that controls all of the kitchen and back hall lights gets hot if you have the lights on...awesome.
My uncle's BIL is the head of the electrician's union for our county, and he offered his services in pointing out everything that was done wrong in our house, so that's good.
If he were smart, he would have said "Just send me the balance of $4200.", and we would have.
If he tries to take us to court, I'm fairly certain he will end up with nothing. He can't account for cost of materials, or time, never provided a formal quote, we never signed anything, plus all of the problems we have. So, I guess we will see what happens.
