Induced Worries

So 24 hrs till check in and besides coming to reality that this is all happening tomorrow I am really dreading 3 things....

1. IV in hand....Ouch! Why can it not be in the arm?

2. Catheter - can they spray some numb spray down there real quick?

3. Nurses - Feeling upset dealing with someone I have never seen - I have been with my OB for 9months and she will come in the final stage or even minutes. I am also being a control freak about shift changes...I don't want to have 2-3+ nurses (I know that's how it goes and they need breaks)

What are your concerns?

Re: Induced Worries

  • I'm worried about the actual drugs they use and the fact they start induction late at night. I don't do well without any sleep or food. I also wanted a med free birth and I think I would scrap that plan if I was induced since I'd be stuck in bed on a continuous monitor. Risk of complications and likelihood if a csection all bother me too. That all said, the goal is a healthy baby. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and do what needs to be done. Im 40+6 at this point. Induction is looking for likely all the time.

  • First of all, deep breath. I was induced a week ago and it wasn't so bad.

    1. My IV was placed in my mid foreman. Ask them to place it somewhere other than your hand.

    2. Generally you don't get a cath if you are not getting the epi or a c-section. If you are getting an epi they will place the cath after the epi is running in full effect. My hospital actually didn't continually cath, but emptied my bladder every two hours or so. I felt no pain.

    3. If you have an OB that's just how it is with deliveries. You'll even begin to push and get so progressed before they will even call the OB. With nurses, I went through 3 shift changes. I hated my first nurse (thank goodness she really only did the paperwork and hook me up to monitors), my overnight nurse was great and non invasive, and my daytime nurse who I ended up delivering with was amazing.

Try to keep an open mind and anticipate that changes beyond control will happen, but a healthy baby is the end goal.

Thanks!!! Makes me feel better ;)

  • Here are my concerns:

-Having to be induced due to my high fluid levels

-The fact that I can't get an epidural due to bleeding issues

    -Excessive bleeding

-C-section from complications if they induce

-Complications from high fluid level (the term "increased morbidity" really scares me)

    -Episiotomy or tearing

-Family pushing to come to the hospital before I'm ready

  • I'm scared of complications and having a c section or baby not tolerating the meds well. I really want a med free birth.

  • I'm being induced tomorrow due to liver condition.

    My concerns are

-bleeding, my platelets have been low this entire pregnancy

-the pain, I'm usually ok with some pain, but considering I have no clue the level and degree of this impending pain it's scares the mess outta me lol.

-complications, I just want my son to be healthy, and he is healthy, but I know things can happen

-c-section, this is general just makes me nervous. I think I will be ok as long as I have my Husband there holding my hand.

-family trying to be all up in my business and trying to worm their way into the room, or be annoying trying to get to see him 2.5 seconds after he's born. I know I'm not a nice person when in pain or with no sleep, so it's going to be interesting lol.
  • I was induced 3 weeks ago. I was nervous cause I thought it would take FOREVER. I was scared about the IV cause I have had problems in the past with my veins being stubborn. The nurses were great and awesome at helping keep me relaxed and explaining all the things that were happening (I'm not good with medical things)
Once I get the epi I didn't feel anything from the cath to even cervical checks.

overall my experience was pretty great. Even with a few scary moments during the process . Good luck to all you ladies

  • I'm being induced tmw bc the baby is 9th percentile in size. All the docs say everything is fine, but insist on inducing me. I'm most worried that the induction is simply bc thanksgiving is coming up and they don't want me to ruin their dinners. Nah, I'm worried about a c-section. I am NOT getting an epi- too stubborn. My mom was induced, got an epi, then a c-section bc I was in distress and passed out on the operating table. I am not following her step by step and that worries me.

I'm being induced at 4:30 am tomorrow and having irrational fears like dying during chidbirth and being paralyzed from the neck down due to epi complications!... and this is my 2nd induction, 1st one was very smooth and problem free
What the heck is wrong with me
  • Normal to be worried/scared/anxious.....focus on the baby being here soon! You might be in too much pain from contractions to spend time thinking about all the medical stuff going on

  • @IndianaMommy08‌ said it really well.

Also once I had my epidural I actually slept for a few hours and progressed the most.

I also surprisingly wasn't hungry until the very end because I was so pumped full of IV fluids.

I ended up with a c-section due to my bone structure. DD's head wouldn't fit through my pelvic bone. I also knew it was a really strong possibility too, due to family history and bone structure but I wanted to try and my Dr. let me

Also a very good friend of mine had to be induced last February and other then the pitocin went with med free vaginal birth. (Ironic to say med free with an induction I know)
