3rd Trimester

Excersize & 3rd Trimester

So we are all highly advised to excersize and eat healthily throughout our already mostly trying pregnancies. Is anyone else lacking motivation? Im 30 weeks now and have barely excersized I used to workout daily pre pregnancy but after the 1st trimester and extreme all-day sickness headaches and fatigue it threw me off the rails and Ive never been able to really workout regularly again. Now im on my third tri with my 1st baby and I just cant motivate myself to excersize and keep it up and here I am planning a natural birth & I dont think ill be fit enough. Do you need to be fit and strong to give birth naturally? Most likely.. & walking is out of the question along with swimming i am busting to use the loo after 10minutes of moving around . Anyone else feel the same?

Re: Excersize & 3rd Trimester

  • Move however you can! I would definitely still try to walk and/or swim--just do it at a gym where a bathroom is close by and/or walk a loop around your neighborhood that puts you back by a bathroom in 10 minutes. Getting things moving in your G.I. track is one of the many benefits of exercise.

I've stayed active my whole pregnancy (33w6d), and I swear it's helped with keeping energy up, hormones/moods (relatively) stable, and has helped increase my confidence going into these final weeks and upcoming labor.

Hulu and Netflix have some great, free prenatal videos that I've done before work from home. Prenatal yoga and pilates will totally help get your pelvic muscles in shape for the big day.

    Good luck, mama--you got this!

  • Yeah, I've exercised a lot since finding out I was pregnant. It's really helped me keep my energy up and my weight gain manageable. I'm hoping it helps me in labor as well. If you aren't motivated to go to the gym, go take a walk. Do something! (Also, it's exercise, not excersize. Those squiggly red lines are telling you something!)
  • Lol ive been lucky enough to hav no squiggly lines appearing yet. Maybe just all around the eyes area lo i have really bad insomnia because my partner is a nightshift worker and i always wake up when he gets home. Lack of energy has a big part to do with it but all excuses i know and that working out would play a big difference to how i sleep. Good on you ladies for keeping fit and active ✔✔ I salute you and am a tad jealous lol but in a good way. Very motivating of corse and I will so do zumba today. I hope i have enough time to get strong before delivery.
  • Now that I have gestational diabetes, I have to exercise. Brisk walking is what has worked for me so far.  I walk for about 15 minutes after breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It was hard at first, but now I am used to it.  Sometimes I even enjoy it.
  • Wow thats great itl work wonders for your digestive system too im going to start doing the same. I have a treadmill but i moved house and its stored behind too much stuff in the garage. Excuses i know.. but my partner is awesome i just need to ask him and itl be going in my lounge ✔
  • I worked 12 hour shifts and on busy nights, easily broke 10,000 steps on the pedometer. Now I am not working and am having a hard time motivating. I did read one article that cited regular strenuous exercise as decreasing birth weights and increasing length of labor. Walking briskly shouldnt do that. And with the GD now, I did commit to elliptical 3-5x/ week for 20 minutes. Not a lot, but definitely doable :-)
    Good Luck! :-)

  • Its good to hear youve made a commitment. Thats great. It will definetly be alot easier for you seeing as you were an active full time worker. That would help majorly and if an eliptical is a bike you must have killer legs lol im having a girl my legs are like jelly im definelty getting into working out because hellno am i going into this labour without training :P
  • I'm planning for a natural birth too and honestly I think exercise is a very important part of preparing. My midwives recommend walking at least 1 mile a day, lots of squats, and anything else you can fit it. I'm very lucky though because my work has a treadmill and stationary bike that I use daily and my house backs up to a community center with an indoor pool and walking tracks. And my husband is a bit of a drill sergeant when it comes to working out and has helped to keep my motivated on the days I seriously just want to do nothing. I always feel better after I get moving though.

You may try not drinking for an hour before your workout and using a maternity support belt when walking. It will lift the baby off your bladder. And working out at home where you can use the potty when needed. There is a whole lot you can do in your living room! Sometimes I just put on 30 minutes worth of spotify music and keep moving the whole time, switching between arms,  squats, and cardio to the beats. But don't get discouraged, you are so much better off getting on track now than putting it off. It will help you feel better now, recover faster later, and hopefully work to your advantage during delivery.

  • I've continued working out throughout pregnancy too, also because I want to remain fit for natural birth (and because it should help me bounce back faster afterwards, if everything I hear is true).  I lift at the gym 3x a week, go to yoga once a week, and up until it got cold here recently, I was walking my dog in the mornings (usually 4x a week).  Now that it's cold/snowy and I don't walk him as much, I really need to start doing cardio at the gym too...but I haven't gotten around to much yet it because I literally hate cardio machines.

  • @jennypolkadots‌ you are so lucky you get to workout at work, swim close to home and have a husband that keeps you motivated. Mine on the other hand thinks..."your pregnant you shouldnt be doing to much " so annoying coz he used to be my workout buddy but since weve moved we have way less space and he works heaps more to make more money for us. I have third tri nausea so its hard to wana excersize but i know how important it is and i need to "Just do it".
  • @BLH2014‌ you are doing great with mixing up your routines to keep you from getting bored. I will use that as a tip and plan something similar. Prenatal yoga is very easy for me to get to because my hubby has linked the computer to the tv so everythings big workouts are easy to find thanks to youtube and i will get my baby body moving :)
  • Cardio is alot harder being in the third trimester .
