So sorry I was AWOL last week.  We had a hell of a time over here.... but things are finally starting to calm down a little now.....

This is a check-in for May mamas of LOs with reflux. Returning or new to the Check-In, we'd love to hear from you!

1 - How old is your LO and how long has s/he been treated for reflux?

2 - How is LO doing? Any new developments, successes or challenges since the last Check-In?

3 - Any questions or tips for other reflux mamas, or anything else to share?

4 - I know Halloween was ages ago at this point, but anybody care to share a photo of their LO dressed up?  Or any recent photo for that matter?  :)

Re: Reflux Check-In (11/13)

  • 1 - DD is 25 weeks old today.  She was diagnosed with reflux ~8.5 weeks and had been on meds (first Zantac for a week, then replaced by Prevacid) until early October when we quit the Prevacid.  After her symptoms started worsening at the end of October, we got back on the Zantac, which we've now been on for almost 3 weeks.

2 - Yesterday we took DD to a pediatric GI.  The doctor was very nice and very patient.  I guess the good news is that she thinks we're doing what we can for DD right now, and that she should start to grow out of it soon.  The reason I say "I guess" is because I consider that both good and bad news.  I just wish there was something magical I could do to end this now.  DD will be 6 months old in 9 days, and I unfortunately don't see an end in sight in our very near future.  The only thing the doctor recommended we do differently is to start giving her cereal, to try to keep the milk down and perhaps help her sleep better at night.  I'd been waiting until 6 months old to start food since I've also been on MSPI diet due to blood in DD's diaper back in July.  But, we're almost at 6 months, so we're going to try oatmeal on Saturday.  The other thing the GI said is that I've likely been on this no-dairy/no-soy diet needlessly for the past 4 months.  Lovely.  But may as well stick with it another month or so longer at this point so as to not change too many things at once...

3 - For those of you whose LO is on Zantac twice a day.... are you successfully able to give it to them every 12 hours?  Based on her eating/sleeping habits and since it must be given at least 30 minutes before a feeding, I find it nearly impossible to do that.  So, she usually gets her evening dosage about 9-10 hours after her morning dosage, which means the time between evening and morning dosages is more like 14 hours instead of 12.  Anyone else in this same boat?

4 - DD was an ice cream cone for Halloween.  Sweetest thing I've ever seen!  :)

  • Cutest icecream cone ever! Honestly I had no idea I was supposed to give it 30 min before a meal. I give it with am cereal and pm cereal. Anywhere from 7-9am to 4-6pm.
  • 1. LO has been on Zantac since June.
    2. She is still doing a lot better. She doesnt cry all the time like she used to. I definately think she is starting to grow out of it.
    3. See above. Also want to say that im glad things are settling down for you.
    4. DD was a ladybug! I posted in the Halloween thread but im on my phone so I cant post another picture right now.
  • 1 - LO will be 6 mo on Tuesday.  She has been treated since she was 2 weeks old

2 - I haven't checked in since the first check-in or so, but LO is doing well. She started out on .8 mL of Zantac and we haven't had to increase. We have been slowly, slowly, weaning her off of the medicine and are at .5 mL as of today. I thought last week she was having some issues but she seems to be fine this week. She is actually spitting up more, but she doesn't seem uncomfortable. She had silent reflux and would literally never spit up so this is new territory for us. We had been going to a chiropractor and we thought that that was helping. We stopped when we moved and she has been doing ok since, so not really sure if that was it or not.

3 - We are ok not giving it at exactly 12 hrs apart. I used to be very picky about it in the beginning, but now, I can go a couple hours in either direction and we will be fine. I am just hoping we are nearing the end of this...it has been a long ride.

4 - Not much for recent pictures, but here is one I snapped with us playing in bed today. :)

So glad your DD is doing well and you are successfully weaning her off her Zantac! That is such good news! Nearly 6 months of treatment is a long time.... I'm glad the end is in sight for you as well! And what beautiful eyes she has!!!!
