FIRST APPOINTMENT

hey ladies!!
Please explain your first appointment?
I hear Heath questions? The nurse said I get to have an u/s but that's all I really know.

Did your husbands go?

  • Call back and ask. Every provider is different. My DH comes to ultrasounds if he can.
  • With my first pregnancy I just saw the nurse. Lots of health questions, blood draws, blood pressure, but no ultrasound. My husband did not got to any appointments until the first ultrasound which was at the 8 week mark. First Dr. appointment was a week later and that was a physical exam (option of having a pap smear), due date officially given, then schedule ultrasound.

    Congrats!
  • Ditto what others said. My DH came to the first one and then only came if there was an ultrasound. Other than that there really isn't a need for him to be there at the normal check ups.
Please excuse typos....auto correct hates me. =)

Neither does mine and my friends give me shit about it! Personally, I don't care. There is no need or him to take off work, really. Do your close friends give you hell?

  • My husband only comes to ultrasounds as well. There's no need for him to be at regular appointments but he has to be at ultrasounds.
  • I asked my husband if he wants to come to my first because he is not working that day. He says if he is off he would love to come to my appointments. We aren't getting an U/S until around 20 weeks but I did tell him that he might get to hear the heartbeat
  • My DH works overnights, so he's said he wants to come to each appointment, which I'm okay with.  Since this is our first time around, I figure we both have a lot to learn!

  • My husband insists on coming to all of my appointments. I am fine with that, as @SlurpeeLove‌ said, this is our first too. He wants to know everything!

  • My DH and I don't go to the Dr. unless we are dying. So, I know, I'm a grown woman but I'm a big baby about going to the Dr. I'm fortunate that my DH has a weekday off of work every other week so I will make sure to schedule the appointments on his off days and he will come with me to every appointment. (We go to every appointment with each other anyway; if he has a dentist appointment I go with him and vice versa) I am anticipating getting a lot of crap from the Dr. because we have already decided to opt out of all testing that is not absolutely 100% necessary. We don't know this Dr. so I will be interested to see how they react. It's our right to choose not to get tests and I don't like it when Dr.'s try to make you feel bad for exercising that right. We will see! But I will need him there for moral support. :-)
  • I was going to post a question about DH's coming to appointments, so I'm glad someone beat me to it! I have my first appointment tomorrow, and I am getting an ultrasound as well. My DH will be coming since it will be an U/S. Other than those, he wont need to come to every appointment

  • I've been regularly seeing and RE so my first appointment was really simple. I had an u/s, got weight, blood pressure and cervix checked and scheduled my next appointment. My DH was there for the U/S but sat in the waiting room for the rest.
  • My first appointment was yesterday. I had just been in for my annual a few months ago and told the doctor we were TTC, so she was able to do some of the tests at that time and I didn't need to get another pap smear (always a plus, I hate them so much!).

There were a bunch of questionnaires I had to fill out about risk factors, family medical histories, etc. There was an ultrasound where we got to see the heartbeat, which was awesome! I got a flu shot, weight and blood pressure checked, blood taken for lab work, urine sample, and a brief breast and pelvic exam. Then lots of information, dos and don'ts, questions about what sort of screenings/tests we want to do, and we left with a packet of info from the hospital.

DH came because he wanted to see the ultrasound, and I think it was reassuring for him to be able to hear a lot of the information directly from the doctor. I'm going to suggest he skip any appointment that doesn't involve an ultrasound, though- there's not really a point in him being there otherwise.
