Late Term and Child Loss

New here *living child mentioned*

I can't believe that I'm here, but we found out yesterday morning at 19 weeks during our anatomy scan that our baby is severely deformed and there's basically no amniotic fluid. I have another ultrasound next Wednesday that is more indepth, but they told me it's lethal. I just am in shock and don't understand.

  • Thank you all so much. I don't know if my baby will die inside of me or if I will carry to term and then it will die. These are some of the questions I need to ask at my appointment next week. Has anyone here carried to term knowing the fate of your baby? Going into labor and birthing a child who will die or has died seems beyond impossible. I would like to see my child though.

  • I'm so sorry that you got such devastating news.

I carried my daughter to term with Trisomy 13, which was also discovered at our anatomy scan.  It is a difficult decision but I have no regrets.  I wanted to give her any chance at life that I could, and with her condition I knew that she would not live long but there was a possibility for a relatively good quality of life for the time that she was here.  I spent 9 months making memories with her during my pregnancy and we spent almost 2 months with her after her birth.  This was well beyond what her doctors expected, and she was a happy, sweet child.

Something that helped me was to write down all my questions before doctor's appointments so that I wouldn't forget them.  I hope that you are able to get your questions answered so that you can make informed decisions.  I will be praying for you and your family!

  • I am so sorry for your horrible news. I received similar news at our anatomy scan, no amniotic fluid. I chose to carry our son and yes, it was incredibly hard, but I wouldn't change it for anything. He lived for three hours and I cherish every second of them. I am so sorry. Please feel free to message me to talk or with questions.

  • Im so sorry :( I was also told at my anatomy scan that our son had a fatal condition due to not having any kidneys (bilateral renal agenesis) nor amniotic fluid. I was induced at almost 28 weeks due to pre-E and was able to spend 1 hour with him alive. I cherish those moments and wouldn't change a thing. ((Hugs)) to you and we are here if you need us.
