Two BPP's a Week

Hi ladies! I have a question and since I can't get ahold of my doctor I've come here for answers. I'm due this Saturday (Nov. 15th) and still haven't met my doctor. I've seen an NP through his office throughout this whole pregnancy and have had appointments scheduled with him many times, but he also works at the local ER and has always ended up having an emergency on the days I'm scheduled to see him.

Starting Oct. 20 I was told my placenta was aging prematurely and I needed to have two NST's a week and one BPP. Then yesterday I get a call from a woman in my doctor's office stating that I need to begin having two BPP's a week because they are concerned the baby isn't getting enough oxygen. I had an appointment today and the doctor cancelled and reschedued me for Monday which is two days past my due date. Today was supposed to be my last BPP but apparently I'm having more now.

This whole pregnancy has been rough on me. I had to quit my job at 8 weeks pregnant due to hyperemesis, and now that has went away but I've had other complications. I'm concerned because apparently the baby is not thriving in my womb like she should be so since she's at risk wouldn't it make more sense to induce labor than to continue to send me for BPP's? I'm not a fan of my baby and I being exposed to so much radiation and I can't understand why I can't just have my baby since I've reached full term.

I guess basically what I want to know is has anyone ever heard of this and if so can you give me some insight as to why they are doing it this way rather than inducing? I know inducing labor isn't ideal and creates a greater risk of having to have a c-section but imo that sounds safer for my baby. I could be misinformed because I do have such a terrible doctor that never explains anything. I'm sorry if this is confusing but my thoughts are jumbled as I'm worried about mine and my child's well being.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I don't have any experience with this exact situation, but my doctors did indicate to me that if there was an issue with the baby (oxygen and nutrients) then they would deliver after 28 weeks so that they could intervene.  However, with your situation, things might be different.  I am sure that it is difficult not having met your doctor yet.  I wish you the best of luck and I'm sending love and prayers.

First...is your doc an OB or family doc that works in the Emergency Room? I am confused. Emergency rooms don't really hire OBs to cover shifts..but I have heard or family doctors delivering babies and I have also heard of family docs covering in Emergency rooms.

Sounds like you have a high risk situation going on, so have you consulted a specialist in high risk pregnancies? If you are afraid your baby is not getting enough nutrition or oxygen...that is a major concern. Bc if in fact it is not you are at risk for a still birth. Most docs will not take you past your due date for this reason. Soooo...I would be concerned about going past your due date.

I don't know your whole medical history and what all is going on..but it does sound like you have some concerns and you need them answered. I would call Labor and Delivery to get a hold of your doctor and have him call you on the phone to answer these questions since he is not around for your appointments.

Having had a child who failed a BPP and was delivered via emergency c/s your situation scares me a little.  If they are that concerned about your LO not thriving in the womb, you are full term so I don't know what they are waiting for.

2 BPPs a week is normal for HR moms...BUT usually a true HR situation is delivered at 39w or so b/c it is usually a "safer out than in" situation.

I would call your doc or even go into L&D complaining of decreased movement to get another look at baby...and maybe get someone who knows what they are doing to make the call on whether or not you should still be pregnant at this point.

I don't understand your doctor situation...you haven't see a doc but someone said your placenta isn't working properly...who said that?
