Traveling for the holidays

I need some help from you lovely A14 ladies.
DH, LO and I are flying back to the states for thanksgiving and will be staying for a week. I have been trying to read up on tips about international flying and traveling with a 3 month old.

We will try to get to the airport 3 hours early to get the bulkhead seats where a bassinet attaches to the wall. Has anyone had experience with this? Does anyone have any other tips or tricks during the flight and also any advice about packing? TIA :)

Re: Traveling for the holidays

  • We took a 24 hours plus trip with LO at two months. She slept most of the time because of the vibration, so much so that I had to discard a lot of breastmilk I allowed to thaw over the course of the trip! I recommend waiting until everyone deplanes to try to exit the aircraft (and by then your gate-checked stroller should be waiting) and feeding if LO is bothered by pressure when taking off/landing.
  • Loading the player...
  • Ooo wow.. I didn't even think about the food part. Thank you! We are traveling us airways and they put in a request by phone but told us we have to be there early to actually get the seats. I am so scared about LO screaming and the fact he always has to be in motion. Looks like I better get my boobs ready for a very long day!

  • We are traveling outside the states for the holidays what's is that about the bassinet that you mention?
  • @Lunatinuviel‌ Most long-haul aircraft have a drop down bassinet (like a murphy bed) in the middle row behind the bulkhead. The downside if your LO is ticketed is that bulkhead seats (where your butt is) are usually more narrow because the entertainment system is in the side of the seat because there is no seat in front of you. I was excited to reserve bulkhead seats when I went to the US at 34 weeks and barely fit width-wise in a Japanese airline's bulkhead seat! I don't know whether fitting an infant seat would be an issue.
  • I fly quite a bit with my LO. The best thing I have purchased is an inflatable my Breastfriend travel pillow. Once in my seat, I blow the pillow up inside the cover. A word of caution, don't blow up the pillow all the way, due to pressure changes in the cabin, the pillow will get quite a bit firmer during takeoff. The pillow is a great sleeping area for my LO and I don't have to hold her weight during a super long flight.
