The Embryologist was nice enough to offer to call today to give me a status report even though they don't usually call on day 3, now I think she probably forgot. Ugh... I'll spend the rest of the day stressing this shit now.

In other news: I'm making spaghetti squash for dinner.

I'm so tired of health issues...me, my kid, mommy friends with cancer and now my dad is in the hospital. Never mind that I've had an ongoing respiratory infection since August! Just done with it all.

We've just have the crappiest weekend. Spent at a hotel, DH gets a stomach bug, I have to miss half the conference we came here for and DS has total cabin fever because he spent the first half of the day trapped in a hotel room with DH who was puking in the bathroom. I tried to take him out in The second half of the day, but it was too close to naptime and he was kind if a wreck. Now, Sunday morning we're getting ready to go home and my tummy us starting to feel unstable.

DHs cousin and his wife, married two years. She's 35, has a 15 and 13 yrs old, has had tubes tied for 13 years. They recently (the same day I told them we're doing ivf) decided they are doing ivf too! ZOMG!!!!!! We can, like have our kids together! It will like totally be so fun! I can't wait to start the process with your clinic and your doctor! Oh wait...what if I have quadruplets because I'm obviously not infertile like you, since obviously this is going to be so easy? I bet all four will be girls too, because hubby wants a boy lolololololol. Fuck you.

Yes! We just had a family gathering last night during which they talked about baby names the whole time and proceeded to ask me if I'm 'excited'. I said, "no, I'm not excited. I'm terrified. There are fifty billion things that could go wrong before I'm holding a baby. We've been dealing with this for two years, this is the end of the road if this doesn't work. So no, not even a little excited."

It felt good, and I cried the whole way home.

Seriously people are so ignorant. Well I think MOST people, even people doing IVF think it's a sure thing. You have to really research the nitty gritty to find out how fucking unreliable this shit is. And as far as your dumbass SIL, good luck to her. I am basically infertile for the same GD reason (tubes are blocked) and guess what #IVF cycle I'm on? Some people get really lucky and do end up pregnant on the first cycle, but the general consensus from PROFESSIONALS is that it takes 3 tries on average.

The only thing I hate more than people perpetuating this propaganda is when different clinics boast different success rates for whatever reason- The average success rate of IVF is 30-35% if a clinic says "Oh yea! You have a 60-70% success rate here at our clinic!" and the person gets a BFN, wtf do you think does to them?

-This, and every thing else that pisses me off about infertility.

I've had the feeling from my clinic that their success rate is so high because they corral people that could have succeeded with medicated iui with a little bit of attention to fucking detail. My dr told me 20% iui success vs 80% IVF success first cycle...yeah right dude.

I feel like I'm going to Vegas with my fertility and it sucks balls. I'm going with our 15k loan for our first IVF, gambling that we'll have frosties for fets. While I'm kind of a downer, im convinced this won't work. It's fun at our house.

See the fact that a clinic can even says shit like that really blows my mind, because like you already mentioned, SO MANY THINGS CAN GO WRONG! People O before they even get to retrieval- Hyper Respond and end up canceled- Respond fine, only to find out the stims fried all the fucking eggs, Respond fine, and have nothing fertilize for no good reason?! - Respond fine, have everything fertilize, and everything arrest on like day 2 with no explanation! Not to mention lab errors, etc. So many stupid fucking factors, and this is all aside the fact that you could have perfect embryos, transfer them and STILL get a BFN (BTDT) So when they say 80% or 70% or 60% I feel like all it does is give inflated false hope to women who are already struggling. Dealing with a BFN when you think "Ok this has a 30% chance of working" is ONE thing, but getting a BFN when they're saying "Most definitely! 80%!" Come on?! Who can fucking process that??

Exactly. It's a bunch of crap. I guess at least I know all this going in. I feel like I'll be more prepared for bad news than Heidi happy-pants who is probably stocking up on diapers already.

It's a fine line between the clinic being honest and scaring the shit out of people that would succeed eventually and fluffing it up to give people this Christmas morning picture of IVF. It's no wonder people treat it like a spa treatment, or a tanning package.

Yeah. Mine kind of takes a middle ground of being non-committal. I've been quoted a 40% chance of success per try--based on what I see as the rather significant assumption that my husband and I produce "quality embryos," which the RE "believes will be the case."

So based on my age, medical history, and bloodwork, my chances are (40% x probably) - but you're so old = maybe? Sigh.
