EPers

Just curious how the EPers are doing. How old is LO? How often do you pump? How much do you get in an average pumping session? What is the most annoying part of pumping to you? How long so you intend on pumping?

Re: EPers

  • LO is 15 weeks. I pump every 3 hours and usually get 4 ounces total. Sometimes we have to supplement depending on his hunger level. The most annoying part is trying to keep baby happy while pumping. Usually he'll just sit in the swing but sometimes he gets frustrated. I plan you continue for as long as my supply will stay where it is!

  • LO is 15 weeks! I pump 3 times a day, 5am, 3pm, and 9pm. I get 15-20 ounces each session. The most annoying part is getting way to much milk, I have 4 months worth in my freezers, that is 3,720 ounces. I'm going to cut down to 2 sessions but I know it's going to be uncomfortable until I adjust but we are running out of room! I want to cut down to pumping once a day around Christmas, im scared to lose my supply completely what if the freezer breaks, we lose power, ugh I freak out about it. My plan is to freeze enough to last her up to a year before completely stopping.

  • Zoe is 14 weeks.  I pump 5 times a day.  The first pump of the day I usually get 10 oz total.  The rest of the pumps I get about 6 oz total each pump.  The most annoying part is washing the parts! I plan to stop early March and then go on freezer supply until it runs out.  If we run out of that before the year mark, we'll switch to formula.   The reason for stopping in early March is because DH and I are going on vacation the last week of March, and I will not be able to pump much, so it'll be best if I just stop.

  • LO is 12 weeks and I pump 5 times a day. At home when I wake up and before bed, and then 3x at work. Today is my first day back, and pumping at work isn't as bad as I thought it might be. I get about 10 oz the first pump of the day, 7-8 the second, and then 5-6 the remaining 3x. I am slowly working on my freezer stash. My original goal was 6 months, but now I'm thinking about going longer, like maybe to 9 months. The most annoying part was keeping LO busy while I pumped at home- I usually fed him in the boppy while I pumped. But now that I am back at work it is lugging all these parts and bottles to/from work and keeping them clean.
  • DS is almost 12 weeks, and I will normally pump every 3-4 hours. The am pump is normally 7-11 oz (depending on whether I pumped MOTN, which I do 90% of the time), and each after that is 4-6 oz. Two of the most annoying things are making sure all the parts are washed and the amount my supply varies with my daily intake of food and water; I have to watch it pretty carefully.
That being said, pumping comes pretty easily. I just recently started BF because LO would finally take the boob, but I hate not being able to gauge how much he eats. Plus, he just falls asleep at the boob- he always finishes a bottle before dozing off!
  • I can't believe how much my supply has tanked since starting work. I started out getting 5oz from each side nearly every pump. Now my biggest haul is 3oz from each side in the morning and 1-2oz from each side rest of day. I pump 4x day, 3 at work and once at 10a. Anyone have experience with your supply bouncing back after going down? I'm just curious what the chances are? Or is it like a switch that doesn't turn back on? :-\

  • Wow i didn't think 10 plus oz per session was possible. Well I can say now that I am most annoyed with how little I am pumping compared to everyone else. Quinn is 12 weeks and I pump 6 or 7 times a day and I get an average of 4to5 oz a session:( man I wish I could get even close to 10
Oz. I plan on pumping until she's a year.

We are pumping about the same amount. I pump about 6 times in 24 hours and get about an oz per hour between pumpings for a total of 24-25 oz a day. I'm afraid to cut down on pumping more. We haven't had to sub formula yet, but we've used a few bags of freezer stash. I have about 1k oz frozen (my supply use to be much larger). LO is 16 weeks.

  • Damn, I don't understand how you ladies have such huge freezer stashes. It took me so long to get in a rhythm that mine is probably 200oz. I only get an extra 4-5 bottle once or twice daily, only because my supply have increased somewhat. I'm pretty darn jealous.

I pump about 4 times a day. And get about 4-9 oz per session. My 13 week old sleeps through night now, so I no longer get up to pump. I have a big boy who cluster feeds so I have absolutely no freezer stash. Everything I pump he eats within 24 hours. Wish I new how to incorporate a freezer stash.
I was planning on stopping at 4 months but might go longer if I can. I'm a SAHM so I might as well. I do miss my wine though.
  • DH and I had a long talk a couple weeks ago and decided to comedown off the pump and to feed LO formula. He is 14 weeks now.  I've worked down to 2 sessions a day now. I do one at work in the morning and one in the evening after LO goes down for the night. I'm only getting between 3-4 oz total each pump. It's bittersweet to do it like this. I HATE pumping but I'm also a bit sad that I won't be providing for LO any longer. Hindsight makes me really glad that I stocked up my stash when my milk was plentiful.

  • Thanks for suggestion "Lizzie". Good idea.
That way he'll start getting used to the taste of formula too
