I am finishing up my last semester of grad school and will graduate two months before the baby comes. I think this will make for an interesting last semester. Anyone else in school?
I'm school, I am taking next semester but was supposed to graduate after summer session I'm putting it off for fall since I'm due middle of the summer.
Oh I'm so glad to see this post and see other ladies are in this boat! I, too, will be writing my dissertation and defending during/after pregnancy (I passed comprehensive exams last semester). I hope I can get an online class to teach next year so I can be home. Good luck everyone!!! I am quite nervous about telling my advisor and other professors because some of them look down on girls who are "knocked up" in grad school, but they are super supportive of the male graduate students who have one, two, or three kids in the program. It really ticks me off hearing their opinions but I hope motherhood will make me stronger and not care what people think about me.
EDD: 07/09/2015 1st pregnancy - total surprise DH & I married almost 2 years
Me! Working full time and in my 3rd semester of grad school. Thank goodness I finished my critical thesis right before this happened. Still have a ton to do, though.

That is really unfortunate. I am getting a Masters in Nursing so women seem to be the majority of the students but my class size is very small. If you have any issues I would make sure you educate yourself on the antidiscrimination policy at your school
We will be finishing at the same time- I am graduating with my MBA in spring. I was also in school for my last pregnancy, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I got tired a lot towards the end, but it was fine. I just took a lot of potty breaks!!
Married DH : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat) DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18 FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!
I just wrote my final exam to get my CPA certification in September. Our mark's are released on November 28th and I'm praying I pass, because my last chance to re-write the three day exam would be at 8 months pregnant... not ideal *face palm*
I am in my fourth year getting my PhD in organizational psychology. It's mainly about psychology in the workplace. I kid you not, my dissertation will be on work-life balance How's that for irony? I'm thinking I should make the title page a picture of me nursing my baby while typing up my dissertation?
It's even more ironic because anti discrimination laws is what we do!! We meaningful organizational psychologists. We are all about anti discrimination laws and how it affects employees, organizations, etc.
I don't know any women that have children who are currently in the program. I do have someone I know who had a child her fourth year in grad school, so I will definitely reach out to her.
I'm honestly thinking I'm worrying too much and that the majority of people will be supportive. I just have heard (since getting my bfp) a make professor make derogatory remarks about getting pregnant. "If a woman is serious about her PhD, she would never get knocked up in the middle of the program." I don't know if was the progesterone , but I sincerely wanted to punch him in the face.
EDD: 07/09/2015 1st pregnancy - total surprise DH & I married almost 2 years
I'm in the middle of my doctorate for psychology - still have 3 years to go after baby is born. Going to try to juggle my schedule with husband who is also finishing up school in the next two years.
Wow you ladies are awesome! I'm enrolled in a post bachelors program to become a certified teacher in my state. It's mostly online but I am scheduled to do some field experience in a classroom next semester so that should be interesting! Being knocked up will delay me finishing the program as soon as I was hoping, but I already qualify for temporary certification so maybe I'll find a new teaching job after I have the baby.
I'm almost 1/2 way through my grad courses, and working full time and I have a 20 month old!!! Busy busy!! Hoping I can finish and not put it off. I'll have 1 class left when LO arrives!
Yep, when I'm due it will be smack dab in the middle of my last term. I'm going to take that off and focus on my newborn. Not to mention, i will have an almost 2 year old by then! Thank god for hubby and his FMLA!
I'm finishing my bachelor's (man you guys are accomplished!) in Hospitality and should be done in May. I've been taking online classes, but there's this one class I have to take in person. By the time it's over, I'll be 7 months pregnant and probably won't fit into the uniform for the class. Oops!
Also, it's in Florida and I'm in Chicago, so we really need to get moving on this move. And the new job isn't going to like me very much. The only class time I could find that would work would mean I have to leave work by 12:30 on each Wednesday for the semester and then add in my doctor's appointments and these people are going to hate me.
I'm working full-time and am also going back to school part-time next semester. It is going to make for some long days, but we'll make it work somehow. Work is also paying for my additional schooling, so I definitely want to take advantage of this opportunity while the funding is available. Luckily classes start in my second trimester (hopefully no puking in class) and end ~a month before we are due.
In the middle of getting my masters in nursing. I also work full nights time but will ask my manager to go part time. It kinda sucks because I just changed departments. I start clinicals in the spring which is like a second job so I think it's too much to do clinicals, work full time and be pregnant, and I'm worried about baby. I'll also be in the middle of a class when the LO gets here.
I am finishing my bachelors degree in Spanish and graduation is May 16 about 2 months before the due date.
I have never seen a pregnant student at UVa but I am happily married and ready as I can be for our baby. I hope my professors will respect this decision but I don't really care if they don't.
My graduation photo will be my husband and I and baby bump in front of the rotunda! Thomas Jefferson would be so proud.
I will get to tell my child that they have already had a year of college under their belt haha
Woot for psych PhDs! I proposed my dissertation when I was 4 months pregnant with my first and defended when he was 6 months old. It was a loooong road, but my advisor was awesome. In some ways, it was easier to have the more flexible schedule of a grad student than as a full-time working mom, but certainly more stressful during school. Good luck to all you mamas gettin yo education!
I am getting a doctorate and will be pregnant during the most stressful part of my program! My due date is July 6 and graduation is July 26th. I really want to walk because this is the big one!
I'll be getting my bachelors in psychology next December! I got pretty excited when I realized the baby will be about 6 weeks when I start my last semester, although it's still going to be difficult. I also have a 5 year old and 7 year old, so their school adds even more work to the mix! I don't know how you working mamas do it all!
So happy to see everyone's positive posts on this topic. I was planning on going back to grad school next year before I found out I'm expecting. So happy to hear other moms and expecting moms can juggle the responsibilities, gives me some hope.
Yup, I have a 20 month old son, work part-time and am doing my PhD full time. Currently preparing for my comprehensive exam...which should be happening right around the end of my first trimester. Then I'm hoping to get a bit of work done on my dissertation before the baby comes.
