Post Partum bulge in vag?????

3 weeks post partum, and I've been feeling pressure on my lady parts from inside if that makes sense. So I whip out a mirror and later have DH confirm, but where the deep abyss used to be, there is now pink tissue that possibly looks muscular?! It's like the great Wall of China set up residence inside. Wondering how I'm ever supposed to be intimate or use a tampon, I was able to find and follow the abyss, which does a literal C towards my back and then forward again. WTH?!

Anybody else have this? I did have 3rd degree tearing which "shredded" the inside of my vaginal canal. 1st baby was CS, this was VBAC, so first vaginal birth. Have PP OB visit in a few weeks.

  • I didn't have anything like that. Seems like your doctor might need to look at that. Hope it is ok...sounds scary to have all that going on.
  • Maybe you still have swelling? I would just have your ob check if you're worried.

  • In all seriousness, OP, call your doctor in the morning. That's just plain weird. Could be swelling, but if it's causing you discomfort 3wks out and is fairly new, I would have it checked. Good luck!

  • I am almost 5 weeks PP and if I stand too long or if I sit on the toilet too long I get a throbbing in my lady bits. I am not sure if this is what you are describing or not...not quite sure what the abyss is either, but I'd ask your doctor!/midwife.
  • OK, in case OP ever comes back to this thread, here's a serious response: it sounds like prolapse, and yes you should have it checked out, but it is not super urgent. Many organs in your pelvic floor become susceptible to prolapse after birth, including your bladder, cervix, and vaginal walls. It will probably resolve partially as you continue to heal, and you can start doing kegels now to strengthen and restore the muscle tone in your pelvic floor.

I have more than one friend who experienced prolapse after birth... one had a relatively severe case and had to stay in bed with her hips elevated for a few weeks. From my understanding, most cases are minor and resolve with no treatment or light PT.

Definitely ask your doctor for confirmation and advice on how to treat your individual case. Good luck!

  • Now I am terrified I could have a prolapse. There is no way I would know cause I sure as hell am not using a mirror to take a peek up there. Thank goodness for upcoming OB appointment!
Exactly this.  I'm a bit curious now, but no, not doing, nope, no way, no how.
