Does anyone still use the K'tan?

I used this when DD was little and it was awesome! Then she got bigger and I started using the Mai tei instead. In the K'tan instructions there were instructions for various positions through the toddler years but it just doesn't seem like it would be supportive enough.

I am hoping I am getting an Ergo 360 for my birthday this week and am just wondering if there is any reason to hold onto the K'tan or if I should unload it on my local mom swap board.

Re: Does anyone still use the K'tan?

  • I still use mine but am also looking into getting something a bit more structured now that LO is bigger. I just bought a knockoff ergo on Amazon, so we'll see how that goes.

  • My little one is crawling so much I don't walk around holding her so much anymore. Though it might be nice to try it again now that she's older.
  • Funny to see this today...I switched from the ktan to a boba around 4-5 mos, but broke out the ktan today because it was easier to put in my bag. He snuggled in and fell asleep happily at a little neighbors get together we went to. Think it's still good for portability if you don't have to move around much - he did get both his shoulders/arms free before going to sleep, which he didn't used to be able to do. Haven't tried any of the more grown up positions, just using the regular inward facing one.
  • I've tried facing out but it just seems awkward. LO didn't seem to mind, but he was definitely more stimulated facing out than facing in.

@Teresa1896‌ - I did put her facing out a couple of times as the Mai tei doesn't have that option and I agree it seemed awkward.

@Vinny424‌ - nope this is our last. I am too old to do this again!

  • We still use the K'Tan, but that is mainly because DD is tiny.  The Ergo and Mei Tai that we have both hurt the back of her knees when we use them.  I'm not sure if I'll use it when she gets bigger.

  • I Only used the k'tan a couple of times. Turns out DD likes to face out. She loves the Ergo 360 so that's all we use now. I just wish it was a little more portable. I have a Moby, k'tan, and travel ergo i might think about selling soon.

  • I have used the ktan facing out a few times... Its not great, but doable if you can really yank the fabric under lo's butt to make it more supportive and tie the extra sash tight across their chest.
  • @Teresa1896‌ what is this knock off you speak of?

Looks comparable. Some reviewers have had some quality control issues so we'll see what it's like when it comes!

  • I used the ktan the other day while at the mall.  I hadn't used it in a while, but LO has been needy and fussy lately, so I thought it would be a good idea.  The next day, my neck and back were terribly sore!  He's put on more weight, but I hadn't had this issue before.  I always have him in the inward facing position.  I loved the ktan when he was smaller and I wish I could still use it now, but it just hurts too much!  I would like the ergo, but I don't have the money for it right now.

  • My LO was really wiggling out of the outward k'tan position. Inward facing is much more secure for us. She is 20lbs+. I used the cart the next time and she loves it.
  • I keep it in the car just in case I forget my structured carrier. It has saved me more than once!
