Go Home Outfits

We are having boy/girl twins and I am starting to think about what we will bring them home in.  They will be born in January, so it will be cold, but we live in GA so it isn't THAT cold.

I've considered nice monogrammed gowns and matching hats with their names on them.  I thought about the gowns since size is so unpredictable.

What did you bring your babies home in?

Re: Go Home Outfits

  • I plan to bring mine home in some cute footed sleepers I found with matching hats. We have car seat canopies to keep them warm during car transfer. Remember whatever you chose will have to be car seat friendly, so if you go with gowns you might end up with bare legs sticking out.

  • A gown may be difficult when you buckle then into the carseat. And my girls still don't fit into gowns right, they all seem too big. We went with little outfits with matching sweatshirts. Gowns are cute for your hospital stay though.

  • I would avoid gowns because of buckling in the car seat.
  • Onesies, with a jacket and knit pants. It was March.

One of my babies stayed longer in the NICU, though so even though they both wore the same outfit home it wasn't on the same day. We dressed the baby who came home first in the outfit again when her sister came home for a picture at the house.

  • We didn't get anything special for going home, but I know I'm in the minority. I'd choose footed sleepers over gowns for the reasons pp have already said. I'd get NB size and roll up the sleeves if needed. Both of mine wore preemie for 6w after they were born but NB wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world.

  • I have 2 footed zip up outfits w/ hoods & plan on putting onesie under. We also have the car seat canopy for extra warmth. And, went with NB for size.

  • I live in GA also, and am expecting my b/g twins the week of Christmas (ob said he won't let me go past 37wk). But I'm bringing mine home in footed sleepers (matching, one blue one pink). Probably will just leave the hospital hats on and bundle them up in soft blankets :-) I can't wait!

  • They'll come home in pajamas. They're babies. They don't care if they're fashionable.

  • @spoonleg I know the babies don't care if they are fashionable, of course.  It is a tradition in many places, and in my family, to have special outfits to go home in.  My babies will wear pajamas of some sort too, but it doesn't hurt for me to have something special to me for them to wear.

  • My boys came home in a set from Carter's- it had a blue shirt under a blue/ browns/tan plaid overalls, sized Newborn- they weighed alittle over 5 pounds.  It was a very unseasonably warm November day- so we just put a blanket around them.
  • Total lurker, but I'm from Georgia, too, so I can't resist :)
I brought both girls home in monogrammed gowns and hats. We had no problem in the car seat; they wore baby legs/leg warmers under their gowns.
