I think most convertible seats have a minimum weight of 5lbs. In other words you can technically use them (RFing of course) from day 1. We switched a few months ago bc my LO didn't like the angle the carrier sat at in the car.

My big 22 lb boy hasn't been carried in the infant carrier really ever. I always used the stroller if I took the carseat, but usually just babywore. No way was I carrying that much weight!
That said, we're looking into switching to the convertible because LO is just seeming too big for his carseat. He technically still has room, but the top of his head is getting a little too close to the top for my liking.

As someone else wrote you can keep using the infant seat but just leave it in the car. This is what I do most of the time, as that seat is heavy with a 20-lb baby in it!
I am torn too! I want to switch because that bucket seat is so hard to carry around but it is getting really cold here so I like the convenience of being able to just throw a blanket over it to get her in and out to the car.
I leave it in the car except for going in and out of the house. It is below zero here with the wind. She will be outgrowing the infant seat soon, but I'm not looking forward to it happening during the winter. We almost are out of strap to let out and she is close to 28 in.
^^^ THIS--- it's freezing here and I know we can't put them in their coats in a car seat so I have been using my bundle me to keep her warm when outside--- but can't use that with the next size car seat. I'm torn.
LO hasn't been in infant car seat since 5m because he is a tall fella lol and since he was so tall the doctor said to get convertible seat but if LO still fits in infant seat then just leave the cars seat in the car that the other ladies said
