Those pregnant with #3+

I'm trying to start budgeting for the stuff we will need for this little one.  We still have all of our stuff from the first 2, I'm just wondering what I'm missing.  I know we need a new carseat, stroller, baby monitor.  I think we will get a few bottles (never used them before but insurance covers a pump so we're gonna give it a try I think) and we have paci babies so we will need some of those.  I want to get a good carrier since DD1 and DD2 are used to being out and about in the summer.  Also considering a RNP.  They were fairly new when DD2 was born I think and I couldn't justify it.  Now I am all about making my life easier.  What else am I missing?  DD2 will be almost 5 so I've missed some of the latest and greatest 'absolute must-haves', I'm sure.

Re: Those pregnant with #3+

  • I love the RNP.  The things I've bought for my second, third and fourth babies were new nipples and/or bottles, burp cloths, pacifiers, some clothes and then after our swing broke I bought a new one.  Oh, and I did get the RNP for use with my third as they didn't exist when I had my first two.  I've used the same crib, stroller, car seats, etc. for each of them.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I thought I was done after my first 12 years ago. When I got pregnant with my daughter 6 years ago, I had to start all over. I kept most of her things, which will help. I did buy a new carseat/stroller combo as mine had expired. I will be investing in a RNP, which I've heard amazing things about. I'll also need to get a breast pump (I'm hoping insurance covers it), some bottles, milk storage bags, pacifiers, crib sheets and other small things.

  • There's actually quite a bit of stuff that we need.  3rd baby for us.

We are going to register.  BRU gives a completion coupon and they give you a percentage back off of everything you buy off of your registry on a Gift Card.  Makes it easier to keep track of what we still need to get too.

We need new car seats, bottles, pacifiers, bathing stuff like towels, wash cloths, grooming items, new monitor, baby gates (we went from a small apartment with the 2 kids to a house so never needed gates before), booster seat, breast pump stuff, sheets, burp cloths, bibs, hamper (last one we had for baby clothes broke).

DH thought I was crazy when I said we needed to register but when I showed him the list on BRU's website he realized it was a good idea.  Look at their list on the site.  It has all of the essentials.

  • We'll need a new carseat because the one from my first two is expired.

We're also getting a Graco little lounger. It's similar to the RNP but it can fully recline and there's a removable insert so it can be washed more easily.

I already bought an ergo about a year ago when it was on sale.

Some other things I have on my list:
    ergo infant insert
    carseat adapter for jogging stroller
    aden & anais blankets
    boppy
    bottles
    graco modes click connect stroller

  • We've got pretty much everything we need. We'll need a new infant car seat and some new pacis. I think that's about it! I plan on borrowing a RNP from our friends who won't be using there's at that time. We didn't use one with DD (weren't invented then!) or with DS, but I have heard great things about them.

  • @lgsdesigner I have never heard of a Wubbanub

    It's so cute!!!
Not only are they cute, they are ten times better than a standard pacifier and less addicting to the baby! The best part? Your baby holds the stuffed animal portion on their own eliminating you constantly bending over and picking it up off the floor all day. :)
  •  We had a 5 year gap between #1 and 2, so I had to start all over.  The biggest new item was the rock n play.  That was amazing and I plan on getting another as I sold the old one.  I had to get a new stroller and car seat, not much changes in bottles and pumps or pacifiers.  The Aden and Anais swaddle blankets are nicer than they were and the velcro swaddle blankets were a must have.  We tried and my baby hated the wubanub, but I have enough friends whose babies loved it that I will try again with #3.  The medela sterlizer bags for breast pump parts were new between the birth of my 2, they were much easier for travel and visiting people.  I had a nipple shield I had to use for a few weeks and I brought them to use with that when I didn't need the pump.
  • Heavens to Betsy I'm on my third in there years. Our house looks like target's baby department threw up its contents everywhere.

So here are my must haves which you did not list-
Rock and play (ok, you listed this but I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful these things are. Splurge and get the snugabunny or monkey for $20 more.)
    Sleep sheep
    The soft gauze/muslin swaddling blankets
Burt's bees diaper cream (and soap and shampoo)
Angelcare baby bath support- this came out between ds and dd and it is way better than all the tubs we tried for ds.
Huggies pure and natural newborn and size 1 diapers. Dd had sensitive skin and these are amazing. She outgrew her sensitivity by 2/3 months.

Gas drops! Lots and lots of gas drops. Those aren't new. We just use them a lot in the first 3 months and the bottles are small and disappear right when you need them.

@jennadesigns‌ I filled out the thing on thebump about breast pumps and I'm getting a free one next week :)
  • This is number 3 for us too. our car seat will hit the 5 year expiration in March so we will have to get a new one, and we plan on getting a few A&A blankets too. I actually already applied for my breast pump through our insurance so that's taken care of. We are pretty set otherwise. Although we already have a boy and girl and have kept most outlets, I think we will need some summer clothes because our 1st and 2nd were both fall babies.

  • car seat (ours expired)
moby wrap & ergo (got rid of ours)
    crib
rock and play (plan to keep baby w/ us since we are on main floor and all other bedrooms are upstairs)
we had a rainforest soother in the crib with our other girls and they all loved it, so I plan to look for another one or something similar.
    monitor
will need new crib sheets and a new changing pad and covers, too.

All the other stuff seems minor to me. I gave away about 90% of our baby clothes but I'm planning to just pick up some onesies and simple things and call it good for a while. I feel like my perspective on what we really need is so pared down than in year's past. There's lots I've given away that I don't feel like I need back now that we're having another.

    So excited for Baby #4!
  • I feel like I don't need anything unless I have a boy and we need clothes. We already have a third car seat for carpooling. I can't recommend the rnp strongly enough; it was a lifesaver for us!
