Weird FB post - WDYT?

I belong to a few groups on FB for moms in my city.  Most people use the groups to buy/sell or trade baby and kids' clothes and toys, or ask for recommendations for activities, etc.  I saw this one tonight:

Hi everyone,  my daughter Alexis is wanting to keep in gymnastics, she can go onto level 2 & we are seeking help pay for it... We are doing a 50/50 draw with a deck of cards, $5/square winner will get $130 and LEXI wants to pull the card so we will video and post winner! Your support would be very appreciated                e-transfers welcome.

This just seems like a weird thing to ask strangers to do over the internet.

  • Not just weird, but also potentially illegal.  I know that in the county where I work, people who run small games of chance are supposed to apply for a license.  I'm not sure how universal a requirement that is, but I'm willing to bet that these people don't have a license to do that, even if it's required where you live. :-P

  • Wow really inappropriate!

  • I can imagine it was hard for her to admit they need help with that, but it's still inappropriate and tacky.  Fundraising is one thing (like hey, my daughter is selling x to pay for gymnastics; please message me if you are interested), but blatantly asking for free money from strangers is weird.

Not competitive, no.  But there is a level 2.  It's the level I quit after.  LOL.
