Success after IF

Frustrated about stim response

Does anybody have any advice? I went on Friday for my monitoring appointment and I was told I had 12 follicles the largest measuring just over six- they increased my medications both the Gonal-F and menopur from 150 to 225.
I went back this morning for another monitoring appointment and now they only count 10 follicles and she told me they're not big enough to measure yet but they are getting there. I'm definitely very confused and stressed I know that each person is going to measure and see things a little differently but I swear I saw more than one follicle on the left and they look bigger than they did on Friday.
Help!!!!

Re: Frustrated about stim response

  • They don't officially count the follicles until they reach a certain size. You can definitely see them there even when they aren't being officially counted. I'd just try to trust your RE that hey know what they are doing. I had the same fears/concerns when I did ivf. They adjust meds based on bloodwork numbers as well as the ultrasound report.

  • My first cycle was similar. I remember the first time he counted several but couldn't measure any. The second time he counted less but measured a few. My last appointment before ER there were 8-10 but during ER they only got 6. I didn't understand it either but it all worked out!

I hope your next appointments show more and this cycle goes well!

  • I didn't have many at the end either time (7 and 10) and got the same kind of comments you are getting. Then at the end I was told I was done based on u/s but they called later and said one more day based on bloodwork. That's why they earn the big bucks, I guess. :) Try to trust them - I know it's easier said than done!!

  • IVF is such a difficult and frustrating process. But, Chi is right...SG won't measure your follicles until they are over 10mm. You'll just get a count until then. And, the first time it will probably be something along "3 over (with the measurements being entered automatically into computer) and 7 under 10." And, follicles total counts will go up and down throughout the process. Stimming is such a stressful time, but you just have to remember that, while you have only done this one time, the docs have done this thousands of times. They are total pros and want you to have a successful outcome. And, I've found they are pretty forthcoming with expectations for your cycle.

You are doing a great job! And, as a positive, all of your follicles are growing at the same rate...that is something to be very happy about!!
