I've lost 5 lbs in 2 days....

The only thing I can think of that could cause it is I've had an upset stomach for two days which has been accompanied with some diarrhea (sorry wayyyy tmi) but really not the amount you would assume to make you lose weight especially 5 pounds. Anyone else have anything like this happen?

  • Could be water weight. Drink lots of water.

  • The body can hold a lot of spare, um, waste but I wouldn't think a whole 5 lbs last would be because of that. I agree with water. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. If you keep losing weight like this call your OB.

  • I agree with others.  It's probably from the loss of poop on top of the loss of water.  Drinks lots of water, but also call your on-call doctor. I work at a clinic as a maternal/child health nurse. If you called my clinic and told me this I would probably have you come in to be evaluated by me that day and have a doc check in on you.
  • Quit bragging!!! ;) Just kidding. So sorry your tummy hasn't felt well. I agree with everyone else...you probably lost a lot of water. Drink lots always. It will help you keep from retaining extra water and being dehydrated can actually cause you to start retaining water.

This. The human body holds, on average, 5 lbs of water at any given time to ensure you don't go straight into dehydration. Diarrhea especially can cause the body to shed its excess water because your body is pulling in every possible nutrient it can while rapidly getting rid of the toxic waste that's causing your upset stomach. Drink some water over the next few days and you'll see that 5lbs come back in no time.

  • What everyone else has said, also depending on time of day, that can have a pretty big effect on your weight as well. Usually you weigh the least in the morning and gain weight throughout the day. I have noticed as much as a 3-5 lb difference between morning and night weights.
