Help...baby wony latch

Just typed an entire post and my phone deleted it. Ugh.

-baby is 4 days old
-hasn't latched since 1am last night (7am now)
-slept well but the two times I tried to get her to eat she became absolutely impossible to console and refused to latch
-really, really close to wanting to just go get some formula
-my milk is coming in, beginning yesterday, and breasts are extremely uncomfortable and big

Help! Sorry for the watered down post I can post more deets if needed. I'm at my wits end. Do I just let her sleep some more? Buy the formula? Anyone else?

  • Also, appts scheduled tomorrow with LC and pediatrician. But it's Sunday now and that feels like a lifetime away.

  • This happened to me too, just as my milk started coming in. I feel for you, it's so frustrating! I would try pumping and see if she'll take that before the formula. I did have to supplement with formula for 3 days due to weight loss but haven't had to since my milk has been all the way in for the last 2 days, and now she's doing great latching on, and the formula didn't seem to set us back as I feared I would. Good luck!
  • I'm kicking myself for not picking up my pump Friday! I thought I wouldn't need it before my lactation appointment Monday. :(
  • I second @jlk6‌ - we had to do a syringe with formula while this baby was in the nicu for the first two days and I couldn't get anything. The reason I don't regret it is because she was hungry and needed to eat.

Pumping yielded nothing for four days.

Also what @amyg* said about RPS. ...flower hold really helps us when I've been engorged on the right side. And I love "laid back breastfeeding"....that is my kinda breastfeeding. It's pretty much No Rules, Just Comfy.

  • Thanks all. I found a place that will work me in today. Very good advice above. Hopefully I will cross a bridge here soon.
