Double Stroller?

I have a 3 1/2 year old who has almost always fought us when it comes to riding in the stroller.  Probably because she always gets my husband to hold her!  Anyway I wasn't planning to get a double stroller for her and baby.  But I am wondering if once the baby is here and in the stroller if my daughter will then want to ride in the stroller with baby.  Anyone have any advice?  We do currently have 2 strollers, but not a double...

Re: Double Stroller?

  • It depends how often you plan on walking long distances with both children by yourself. I would wait and see, if your 3 year old ends up being super jealous about the baby riding in the stroller you can always get one later but you don't want to spend the money now if you never end up using it.

  • I'm waiting to get a double stroller. DS turns 3 in December and he doesn't normally ride in the stroller so I'm going to avoid getting one if I can.

  • I would say if you can grab a used one then go for it. That's what we did and I've used our double stroller quite a bit, but not enough to warrant a $100-$200 price tag.

The other thing is you probably won't go out walking with the stroller a lot during winter. I would wait for now and decide later.

  • I got a sit and stand stroller with my second. Mine are 4 years apart. Mostly so I could go for long walks without a whining 4 year old! I used it for about a year. But my oldest liked going in the stroller when I went got long walks before his brother was born.
  • With your first being that much older, I would look into a sit 'n stand.  My first two are 51 weeks apart and we had an Eddie Bauer double stroller (#1 didn't walk until he was 15 months old) and I hated it!  It was hard to maneuver and a total pain in the ass.  I ended up mostly wearing the carrier and carrying the other on my shoulders, like a human totem pole.  Maybe a small stroller and a carrier?

  • We got a used Joovy sit & stand for $40. I'm in the same boat as you not knowing how much we'll use it, but for that price I'm ok if we don't use it an incredible amount. I'll also probably baby wear some or try to get DS to walk nicely and hold my hand.
  • I am a die-hard double stroller fan, but we waited until DS2 was about 6m before getting ours. I even knew which one I wanted, City Mini GT.
-the cost(which would have included the carrier attachment but I skipped it)
-I wore DS2 a lot more than I expected to do. Someone lent me an Ergo which made thing way easier than the Bjorn we had with DS1.
-DS2 was born end of Aug and through the winter months, we sort of hunkered down and didn't need both boys out and about in a stroller. When we did, Ds1 was pushed in a single and I wore DS2. So when Spring rolled around, we were ready for the double and going on walks was/is our main use of it.

  • We love our double stroller (city mini). Our oldest (just turned 3 in Sept) won't always ride in it but it's nice to have as an option for him, especially when we are out walking for a long day.

  • I loved having a double stroller - but our oldest was 22 months when the second was born. However we did use it for a couple of years. She normally walked for short trips, but I would walk to the grocery store for a few things and they would both sit in the stroller and eat lunch. It was great for me wanting to actually get somewhere faster and have them eat while doing so.

  • I'm going to wait. DD will be 3 in April (we won't be walking before that, too cold) Plus I can babywear a lot next summer leaving the single stroller free for DD. I'm betting we probably won't need one.

  • @wahooMOM13‌ our babies are really close in age! I plan on continuing to use the double stroller, especial once summer comes because we walk a lot and go to the zoo often. Oldest son loves to walk but I'm hoping he is able to grasp his balance bike a little better this summer to make our walks more manageable!

The thought of 3 hit me today when we were baking and I gave each of my babies a beater to lick (I know, bad mommy). What happens when we have 3...there are only 2 beaters!?!? Oh the dilemmas!!
